I am post menopausal and have just been diagnosed with vaginal dryness and thinning. My mother passed away over 30 years ago from breast cancer. The RN just perscribed Premarin. I am not sure if she read my file. ohmy.gif After doing a little research on Premarin, I am still not sure whether or not I should be using it. Does anyone know any info on the product/subject? Is it ok for a woman with cancer history to be using an estogen product? Or should I go the herbal direction and vitamins? Help huh.gif

thanks...confused

Have you tried Natural Vitamin E caps, not orally but vaginally. It helpw with dryness a lot, but can be messy. I would never take premarin under any circumstances, especially with family history.

Vitamin E
What it Can Do For You:
Can help prevent and treat vaginal atrophy -- especially when used topically (by using the soft-gel capsule as a vaginal suppository).
Has been shown in studies to help reduce breast cysts, to diminish PMS symptoms like anxiety and moodiness, and to help keep thyroid function regular -- which may be particularly helpful for women with an autoimmune basis to their premature menopause.
As an antioxidant, may be useful in helping prevent cancer and heart disease, as well as in helping to slow the effects of aging.

Hi Janmar2001...

My personal opinion, is that anyone who has breast cancer, heart disease or stroke any where in their family line would be better off stearing clear of any premarin, HRT etc..
My doctors gave me premarin for short while...until one of the doctors asked me one day if I had a uterus, I told him yes.
He then told me, I should not have been prescribed the premarin with a uterus intact. So...they took me off cold turkey.
Lots of heart disease in my family, so I decided against all HRT.
It's important that you research, for yourself...and then decided what you feel is in your best interest.
Sorry to say...doctor's do not always know, or take the time to know our family history, or take the time to chart a line of defense that will work out for our better good.
It takes awhile to find a doctor, who we feel comfortable putting our health and trust into. They are out there...just difficult to find.

I've found a wealth of information right here at Power Surge.
Thanks to Dearest, and the other wonderful ladies here.
So, you are in the best place possible for research and others with real life experience.

Thanks ladies! I forgot to put that it was Premarin cream. I have read about the vitamin E also. I'm not sure if the cream is as bad as taking HRT. It still makes me a bit nervous. I did start the cream and it is working wonders. I am only suppose to use it for 2 weeks and then 3 days a week. After that as needed. I felt for such a short period of time, that maybe it is mild enough???

Also, I think it might be making me gain some water weight. Has anyone had that problem? You wouldn't think that a cream would do that. I am hoping that's all it is. I've gained a pound already!
