Good afternoon to everyone!

I just found this website because I ordered Revival Shakes. I need to lose weight and gain control of my blood pressure and cholesterol. I like the fact that their products contain no genetically altered soy, which in many soy products, is very hard to find.

I wanted to get some feedback on the shakes. Are they working for you? I am suffering from peri really bad. I have horrible mood swings and anger outbursts - I feel like a monster more than half of the time. My periods are not any different though, so my doctor thinks that I am not experiencing peri. I think after reading these boards, I am definately in peri!

As far as my anger issues are concerned, I have seeked counseling through my Pastor at church. It is helping. I'm just praying that the shakes can combat these horrible physical changes that I am experiencing. I also stopped smoking 9 months ago, which I believe threw me into extremely bad peri (I believe I used smoking as a coping mechanism for anger, stress, etc.).

Thanks in advance for your comments/feedback!

Linda, here is a re-print from my response to your question in a previous board discussion:

I HATED Revival Soy!!!!!! Aiiiiiigggggghhhhh! I ordered the month's supply and forced myself to drink a shake every day, despite feeling nauseous, and being as BLOATED as a whale!!!! My flatulence was worse than you can imagine. I was miserable; felt miserable; and looked miserable. A wonderful woman told me that soy products often cause these intestinal problems. As soon as I stopped drinking the shakes, my symptoms improved.

The company was wonderful. I sent back the remaining 11 packets of soy and they refunded my money immediately. They did try to talk me into buying their enzyme product, which reportedly helps you deal with the digestion problems and flatulence. I didn't want to buy another freaking product. I was buying enough stuff as it is! Then they suggested drinking half in the morning and half later. I had already tried that and it didn't help. Just smelling the shake made me nauseous!!!!

What's really s*cks is that I ordered the product because I had read on this site how wonderful Revival was for meno symptoms. It made mine worse!!!! It didn't make me sleep better, ease my irritable bowel syndrome, give me more energy, improve my moods, take away the foggy-headedness, or the muscle aches and joint soreness, or my migraines. It just made me more miserable. I HAD to stop.

It's just another example of how unique our meno experiences are. I when I was trying to decide whether to try Revival, I couldn't find one post where someone cited a problem. I only found comments about how wonderful it was. I just want to make sure women searching for info on Revival see that it certainly doesn't work magically for all women.
Grrrrrr! {stomping on Revival Soy in my mind.} If you are dealing with pre-existing IBS symptoms (i.e., intestinal cramps, BLOAT, diarrhea, nausea, BEWARE of Revival Soy!

Do a search of the boards for "revival soy" and you'll find many discussions of this product. Most are positive!

I really do hope it works for you!

Hi, Linda! Congratulations on quitting smoking! I quit smoking many years ago after a 10-year pack-a-day habit and I found that I was having anger outbursts for about 6 to 9 months after I quit cold turkey. They were very strange, very irrational. But they disappeared eventually. That may be what's causing your anger bursts.

Stress really does strange things to one's hormones, especially when you're in your 40s and getting closer to menopause. The stress of quitting smoking really could be sending your body into a perimenopause tailspin.

I've been drinking the Revival shakes for about a year and I'm very happy with them. At first I could barely choke them down. Hated them. Loathed them. Spit them up. But after a steady month of drinking them I did notice that I was feeling much better. For about a year I'd been charting my perimenopause symptoms on a calendar--hot flashes, night sweats, crying attacks, panic attacks, horrible migraines, etc. After 6 months I stopped charting the symptoms because they mostly vanished. Was it because of the Revival or because my body just temporarily cycled out of the hormone attacks? Dunno. Several friends and doctors told me that perimenopause symptoms often come in waves and one may suddenly feel better after months of misery.

I also made other changes in my life which may have contributed to my feeling better:

* I make a daily effort to eat more protein. According to the online Merck Manual, a diagnostic manual for doctors, PMS symptoms can be eleviated in some women by their eating more protein. And what is peri but years of super-PMS? So I try to eat a chicken breast every day (37 grams of protein, as opposed to about 7 or 8 grams for an egg, a hotdog or hamburger). A Revival shake has 21 grams of protein. That gives me over 50 grams of protein a day, much more than I was eating in the past.

* I get a lot of exercise. Every day. Makes a difference. Really helps my mood, clears my head.

* I try to get an extra 2 hours of sleep a night. That's hard but my body seems to need it during this problematic time of life.

I feel really good. Back to my old self--almost. Lots of energy, mental fog gone. No more headaches. No more nightsweats. Rarely have a temper attack. Sleeping good too. Feel good overall. This after a year of pure unadulterated suffering.

I don't know if the Revival shakes played a role in this reversal. But I still drink them and I think they're worth it. I'm lousy at getting enough protein into my diet and the shakes are an easy, economical way to make sure that I do. And who knows, maybe they do keep my hormones from getting too wacky?

Prior to Revival I tried hormones and birth control pills. Just didn't make me feel good.

I have conditioned myself to enjoying the chocolate shakes. Can't stand the other flavors.

Every woman is different--very different as you'll learn from this Web site. You'll find many different opinions and ideas, all worthwhile and valid.

I hope this is some help and I hope you're feeling better soon. Once again...congratulations on quitting smoking! I'm sure glad I did. After I quit I started feeling so much better and it's been 20 years since then and I haven't had any cravings.

Best!

WOW...it's amazing how two different people can get two different results!! Well, I'm sort of used to soy products because I was on Herbalife for many years - these are a soy-based shakes as well. Soy never gave me any stomach problems, so I should be (hopefully) fine.

I ordered the vanilla because I can mix it with a banana for more potassium. By the way, can you mix the shake with skim milk or do you use water? Was curious about what you mix it with.

I actually was online yesterday and I was going to order the bars. Well, I was shocked to see that many of the bars contain SATURATED FAT, which is the worst kind of fat!! I was very, very suprised to see that - I mean, c'mon....this is supposed to be a healthy lifestyle! I personally have high cholesterol, so I can't eat their bars. I did write to the company because I am very concerned about that. I mean, these products are much more expensive than your other non-GMO soy products that can be purchased in a health food store/online. Personally, they should give the consumer the option of buying their product in bulk form as well as individual serving packets. If they sold it in bulk, they could pass the savings to the consumer. It's all that individual packaging that gets really expensive.

OK...as you can see by my writing, I am PMSing BIG TIME right now. .....I also freaked out at my husband this morning. I really hate living like this - I wanted to drive off the highway today because I was so angry at myself!! ARGHHHH!!!!!!

OK Ladies...thanks for the response....hopefully, other people will respond, too.

Have a great weekend! wink.gif

Hi Linda,

I started a thread called How Has Revival Helped You- on the Revival board. There are many posts sharing
their experiences with Revival Soy. I love the product myself! The benefits have been amazing for me.

I'm also a long-term Revival user. I think I started in the summer of 1998. I have lots and lots of posts on the Revival board, if you do a search for them.

I've also posted lots of Revival Recipes on the Revival board. I'm pretty sure that that's the name of the topic I started. I love the vanilla shakes because I can add latte syrups and/or fruit (or fruit juice) to make all kinds of interesting flavors.

I almost always mix mine with skim milk...except one time I was out of milk and used cold coffee. With a chocolate shake, that makes a nice mocha smile.gif

I don't have anger issues, but my moods have evened out a lot since I started Revival. I used to get depressed much more often.

The following is from a previous post of mine, on the Revival Board:

When I started, I was on regular HRT (Estrace and Provera) but I wanted to get off those. I was very glad when Dearest mentioned this new form of soy in June of that year.

I started with chocolate shakes - at that time there weren't nearly so many options - and then switched to vanilla unsweetened so I could control the sweetness and flavor. Somewhere in this area, I've posted a lot of my "Revival Recipes". My current favorite is using unsweetened raspberry syrup as the flavor.

I was able to get off the HRT much quicker than I planned because none of my pre-HRT problems were coming back.

When I first started on Revival, I also started going to Weight Watchers. I figured the Revival into the WW points and lost 25 points. Unfortunately, I was too sure of myself and regained some of that weight, but if I were more diligent, who knows?

I also use Revival as a breakfast substitute. A friend uses the bars as a lunch substitute. I've tried the bars and I think I would be tempted to eat too many if I had them around all the time.

My gynecologist was delighted when I started using soy. He'd thought that soy was better for his patients, but most of the patients were leary of trying soy at all.

I also count Revival as part of the food budget. I'm on the "family plan" and get 2 months worth at a time. It's cheaper that way and I save on shipping charges.

I'm post-meno now and I don't know if I would have any symptoms or not. None of my pre-HRT symptoms came back ever and I'm glad of that. I have noticed if I miss a day I'm less energetic, more hungry than if I've started the day with Revival.
