I can't seem to find anything that provides the "normal" range for Progesterone in a meno woman on BHRT. I have the range for Estradiol and Testosterone. Does anyone know?

I've been using compounded cream versions of all three and had 3 tiny little weeks where I felt wonderful and then had a period and my doc had me increase the progesterone and decrease the est and I haven't felt right again since. sad.gif

My biggest symptoms are depression (when still having periods I only had 1 good week each month where I wasn't depressed, irritable or having a period), mild hot flashes, vag dryness (current dose of est is taking care of mostly now), no brain power, tired, can't sleep, low sex drive.

I am currently on 1ML Estradiol (half twice a day) in a transdermal form. I stopped the Progesterone until I can get another blood test. I stopped the Testosterone because my blood level was up to 54 and my chin hair started growing faster. Obviously on that one, 54 is too high for me.

I'm almost 50, have been meno for almost 2 years. I'm 5'5" and weigh 130 with lots of muscle so am a fairly small woman.

Any suggestions?

I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts for the past month and this is my first post. Thanks, Jeanne

[Hi, I don't know the ranges for progesterone, but I have low progesterone and lower than normal estrogen. When my doc gave e e e me compounded progesterone cream at 100mg I felt awful....I think it through off the balance of the two since he did not give me ANY estrogen (have changed docs!). I think the prog.was too much way too much for me anyway. Perhas the increase pogesterone with a decrease estroges is throwing off the balance for you, as well. Since you were feeling well at one point, why don't you go back to that...ask his and say you want to just try that amount again....Joan...not on anything now and wondering what to do!

Hey there, HJ!

Dr. Uzzi Reiss (Natural Hormone Balance) says, "usually the progesterone range of "normal" in most labs is between 5 and 25 ng/ml. A level higher that 5 tells us one critical fact--the woman is ovulating."

He goes on to say the "optimum zone" for progesterone in most labs is between 15 to 25 ng/ml. In the labs he uses, the zone is 18 to 20. He also says the ability to achieve an optimum level with maximum benefits depends a great deal on the "form" of P. you take, i.e., patch, cream, pill, sublinguals, etc.

Does this help?

Yes, that helps. On my last test, my progest was 1 but I don't know the "of what" as in ng/ml so I'm assuming it's 1ng/ml. Thanks! Jeanne

I can't take progesterone in any form - fortunately, since I had a hysterectomy, I don't have to! I've heard that micronesed (SP) progesterone is the easiest to handle. Just don't use Provera - that stuff is "poison"!
