My dr. just prescribed prometrium for me because my prog. level was very low. I had not had a period for 4 months and was just going to start the prometrium and today, out of the blue, I started my period. Now I'm not sure when is the right time to start the prometrium and when to stop it. I want to cycle every month if possible. My dr. doesn't know anything about bioidenticals so she can't help. She's basically given me what I asked her to give me.

Thanks for any help!

Carolina,

Can you call your doctor to get some direction. Usually, you take the prometrium 14 days after your first bleed day and go for 14 days or the 28th day of your cycle and then stop the prometrium to start a period.

Do check with your doctor though, as he may have other ideas. I am on bioidenticals and taken the progesterone as early as 7 days after a bleed and my doctor has mentioned taking it continously but I haven't done this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Emma. My GP just prescribed one per day. Although she is very nice, she doesn't know much about using bioidenticals and she only prescribed prometrium because I asked her to. I really would prefer to cycle every month. I'm going to try what you suggested and if I have any problems, I'll just take it continuously and see how that goes. My primary problem with my low progesterone is that I'm losing hair like crazy and getting thick through the waist, otherwise I feel fine. Thanks for your feedback!
