Hi Eveyone!

I'm new to posting but have read tons on this site. I have the worst dryness! I went to the ER three times before I got the right dianoses. I'm on Vagifem, Replens, Revival, Vitimans and Supplements. I know that I need to give these things some time to work and am feeling some relief laugh.gif I still get my periods albiet very irregular, but am finding much discomfort with tampons and pads, I use unscented ones. Do any of you have any suggestions or advice? Thanks in advance.

Shakti,

Oh do I know how you feel, like a virgin all over again! I stopped at 44 and never started again, am 49 now and have been dealing with this that long blink.gif I found out how dry I was when I actually had tears running down my cheeks when my husband tried to enter me. I knew I was in trouble then. So...I have been on the journey for everything and anything. I spoke with another surgette and ordered some natural cream but it hasn't arrived, and I cannot wait to try that. I have been on Vagifem, the Estring and Premarin (which I won't take do to the inhumane way they retrieve it from mares.) I think using the simple vitaman E capsules will help you immediately, 400 mg and put one up every night, (I use one of the yeast infection tubes), also break one and put on the outside especially around the opening to your uretha or buy the E oil for 4.95 really helps. The oil is sticky when you break one, but it stays when your tinkling so it's great.

Three days ago I relented and went back to Vagifem because I cannot stand having to tinkle constantly. It is a constant feeling of having a bladder infection or yeast infection, all symptoms of dryness, NOT the conditions itself. I have used the Vagifem before and am fortunate to have no side effects. Just get your pap smear and mammo faithfully. I still add the Vita E oil on the outside and use the Vagifem twice weekly after one full week of inserting the little tablet. In between, up goes the E capsules. So far so good, but I cannot wait until that special cream gets here. I understand that can be used inside and outside and I am hoping it is my miracle too smile.gif Just remember, you are NOT alone rolleyes.gif I know alot of gals who have gone to the Bio identicals, but I was on the pill so long with no problems that the Vagifem (prescription) seemed the solution.

I cannot use Replens-it stings and I am not permitted vagifem so I rely on a vitamin E oil capsule inserted once a day and oil all around the outside too.
I find it fantastic.
Vagifem did work best for me. If you are allowed to use it that is the best.It puts you back to normal quickly.
Shakti
Thanks Ladies for all the help and info! I'm going to try the vitiman E asap. The Vagifem is helping now. I hated the feeling of always having to pee. I'm in the midst of buying a home, trying to sell a home and living with my inlaws (5 months now) blink.gif and having all these crazy symptoms. It's a wonder I'm still managing a smile here and there biggrin.gif . Talk to you soon!

Hey Cuz Tinkerbette, good to see you on the thread, hope you get your salve soon.
I just had a doozy of an episode hadnt had one in along time. My salve has kept it pretty much in control but I had to add tea tree oil suppositories. I think this time it was attibuted to Estrogen Dominance because it is after my period and at the time of ovulation. I also think my mistake was I wasnt taking care of that area because it was doing so good so I would say to you ladies keep up the maintenance, whatever you use keep it up weekly if its natural stuff especailly.
After this episode God willing I will make sure to use my salve weekly and a lil tea tree oil as soon as I feel it coming on, I guess some women get this and others get other stuff its the pits though, take care, TINKS
L2
Estrace cream would completely take care of it, if you are able to use it. It is prescription estradiol (estrogen) cream. I use much less than the recommended amount. It really helps.

Back to you, cuz Tinkybug! Sorry to here you had a spell. I have mine under control for a change, but still waiting on that creme. I understand it is backordered, so many are trying it! I finally went back to Vagifem, but was at my sisters on the Jersey Shore for three days and used what was left of my estrace creme that I had left there the last visit. As L2 said below, use less than said and it works. So, when I got home, back to the Vagifem. Saved me from using her glorious bathroom all night and day laugh.gif

You have to love this menopause. Now I know what "penis envy" actually is. If we had that, we wouldn't be going through this blink.gif And you can take that on a picnic cool.gif

Take care of yourself,
Tinker B.
tinkybug
Hey TinkerB, seems like things are undercontrol now like I said weekly maintenance is the key word. I ordered my Yeast-free salve from the regular place I told you about and received it just in time.
I also forgot to tell you about Yeast-Gard and Gynatren if you ever need extra stuff let me know you can PM me on how to find these products they are also helpful, I have a whole arsenol of different things I have tried am still trying to stay away from drug type creams, I will hold out til the bitter end laugh.gif
I know sometimes we have to use Meds. but meds and I dont work well together, take care and let me know what you think of the salve once you receive it, Tinkybug

Hi,

after about three weeks of 'urgent' need to urinate....and burning sensations, and after a bladder test came back negative, and given no treatment suggestions, I have come up with a remedy, which I can't believe is actually working.........and has worked now for about five months. I use this treatment after each time I urinate.

I go into the shower, or washroom, and make sure I am completely clean, especially my hands, and then dab TeaTree Oil on one finger, and a dob of a Personal Lubricant.. ( not sure if I am allowed to mention names.and I am not sure if it's because I use these specific brands)... and with the TeaTree Oil and the Lubricant, I insert my finger, (like I would with a tampon).....and then smear some on the outer edge .......gees I am not used to talking about all this and find I am talking like a prude !!.... but spread it on the outside ......to lubricate the area.

I wear a scent free panty liner during the day and I must say it feels totally comfortable and such a relief.

And I must say that I feel the thinning of the skin seems to have started to reverse as I have started to feel very comfortable being intimate with my husband. Much less worrying about tearing, or burning ..

Hope this helps you...
janet c
That is very helpful! Is tea tree oil ok in that area then? I always thought it was quite astringent - I would be frightened to put it inside me! ohmy.gif

janet c,

At this point, I am ready to put anything up there! Except my poor husband...In fact, he is after me right now unsure.gif

I think any good Tea Tree oil would do. I have been using the liquid Vitaman E oil. Ain't life grand.

Hi girls, Yes I agree with Dorotka, I found out about the tea tree oil from my books of natural remedies and from a gal in Idaho where I order alot of my stuff, now there are different strenghts you can use, you can start with the 5% cream, then there is the 100% in the bottle and I use the 200% ohmy.gif tea tree oil suppositories that is the treatment I am on now and it is working it just takes a lil longer than the Meds they give us but no side effects. It feels like you put mentholatum up there but it works for me and for dorotka, the salve I use also has it in it but in a mixture of other things so what works is my salve and then I alternate with the tea tree oil.
Another thing that one can do is take Acidophilus (spelling?) and that is to put the friendly bacteria back in that area I do that too and it also helps with my stomach I use to suffer from IBS. Boy just reading this makes one look like a mess.
If you want you can google tea tree oil and put in natural remedies and see what you find out its good to read on what we do to our bodys.
Just thought I would put in my 2cents, take care, Tinkybug smile.gif
janet c
I just bought some tea tree oil yesterday and i tried using it with vit e oil around vagina and bladder opening last night.
I am a bit worried about the menthol effect-but it seems as though this is what I should expect.
I have been having a lot of trouble around my bladder opening-it always seems sore even though I have no infection. the vit e has not helped so i am hoping the tea tree will. Is it ok to use it every day?

Hi Janet c, Yes I do use the tea tree oil, but am only using it when the symptoms are severe. I have the salve I told you about and as long as I use it pretty much as a daily routine a dab a day keeps the genie moist. I sent you a PM with the info. In the meanwhile try this remedy and see if it helps.
I now know mine is due to hormonal changes because it use to come before my period and now changed to the end of it.
I am currently having to put the yeast-free salve also because I am at the end of my period and seems as if the progesterone dips and the estrogen goes up , so this is what I think and this is working for me, hope you find relief its quite horrible to have this isnt it?
Take care, Tinkybug

I did use it everday for about 1 1/2 weeks then took a lil break.

The tea tree oil is what I am talking about
janet c
Actually I am wondering if anybody can help me with this.
I have the dryness well under control and intercourse itself is not a problem.
The problem is the "outside" area. Although I am putting the oils on like has already been discussed-something is not right. I am ok for a while and then all of a sudden I get this really bad burning around that area. It seems to feel funny when I am in a bath or swimming as well as making love.
I don't appear to have a urine infection-no burning when i urinate but it just is so uncomfortable at times.
As I have no ovaries now and cannot have HRT I wonder if it is just an inevitable part of it all?
It is very upsetting because I am so darned sensitive in that area, and cannot be touched in the way i would like( if you know what I mean)for very long without this burning kicking in.
I dont know whether to see the doc. sad.gif
arla
Hi Janet, I have also been plagued with this problem recently. I know exactly what you mean as I do not have the burning when urinating neither. It seems to come and go for me but the whole area just seems to be way more sensitive than before. I also do not take HRT. I'm sorry I can't be of much help for a remedy, just wanted to let you know that I have experienced this also. I actually have a doctor appointment next week so I think I'll mention this then and let you know what he says or if he has any ideas for relief.

Janet I did already send you some info on the salve, please do try it I know about that pain and discomfort you are talking about.
You know my Doc told me once to try cortisone cream/the anti itch one and Monostat(spelling) over the counter cream together and that did help when I had the itch. Now this was after she said I had no infection but I did try it and it helped.
I am so sorry this has to be the worst pain one could have.
Mine is in controll right now, and I just use the salve daily now and its also good as a lubricant, its very soothing, thats all I have to offer. Have you looked on this website to see what dearest might have?
Tinks
janet c
thank you tinks-
Yes you did send me the info but I was a bit worried about using it because some of the ingredients seem to be plant hormones. I know they are fine for most ladies but I have to be very careful not to use anything with anything remotely oestrogen like as I have had endo cancer and it could make any stray cells grow.
The surgeon did say that down the line I may be able to have local hormone therapy but at present I really have to be careful!
Thanks for your input Arla-I would be interested to hear what your doctor says.
I may just go myself.

Hi Janet, ok I see you are right you have to be careful. Now let me ask you this , the yeast free salve do you think this one would be ok for you, it doesnt have the wild yam in it?
As for me yes I do still have the ol ovarys and it seems as if the wild yam in the first salve does relieve what I lack for now, I know what you mean though the discomfort is right in the front.
Maybe your doc could prescribe something to at least give you relief.
Like I said before I found the salve I used the Vite E, you know there is another called YEAST GARD, can you google it and see what the ingred. are and see if its safe for you, I used that too and it helped, even though I didnt have a yeast infection. Another is called Creme de laFemme, all natural and glycerin free, developed by Marilyn Pratt MD. Hope this helps, Tinks

Oh as far as the Gyno I last saw I wasnt happy with him, the only thing he said that made sense is that I am probably Estrogen Dominant, and I already had figured that out, he wanted me to take Proterium (spelling dont remember name) anyways a form of progesteron but when I read up on it I didnt like the possible side affects. What I started taking is the natural cream form with the USP in it so lets see if its working, so far so good.
janet c
Thanks so much Tinks. I have been "investigating" a bit with a mirror and I seem to have one little tiny sore area. It is not around my bladder opening but just below a very important bit if you know what I am saying.
You see- the thing is that the rest of me is not sore. I think the vit E oil has been working. I have been using it since my op in March and it works fine. It is just one tiny little spot so maybe I have been missing it with the oil or I have a little infection there.
I will take extra care with the oil and the tea tree for the next few days and if it doesn't improve I will go to the doc.
I really think those oils do work!
Thanks again for your suggestions though. I will certainly look into them

I would suggest you purchase a copy of Dr. John Lee's book on hormones. He talks a lot about dry skin and vaginal dryness, UTIs etc. He says small doses of the hormone estriol will take care of it all. Buy the book and do some reading. Then if you think he knows what he is talking about, you can purchase the bio-identical estriol online. Always use progesterone when you use any type of estrogen however, in order to prevent estrogen dominance. Do a google search for Dr. John Lee and you can read all about this. I believe Dr. Lee's articles are also available here on this Power Surge site.

Hiya Icehot, and welcome. I was reading up on the oil but havent seen where the connection is for the dryness in the vagina? I am glad to hear it worked and I have alot of stuff that works, but I am always willing to try something new. So did you find somewhere that they said it was safe and good for the dryness and if so can you PM me the website? If you want any info on the stuff I use I will be happy to share with you too. Thanks Tinkybug
Oh now I came across black cumin seed oil, is this the same thing because this comes up when you put google black seed oil.
silver star
There is an Ebay store called Pete's Soap Supplies, something like that, and they sell Black Cumin Seed Oil. They do all their own seed, nut, and fruit pressing themselves. Looks like a great source to me. Also the price is excellent and shipping low. I was searching for a source for this oil, and this is the best source I have found so far. I went to our local health food store tonight and they don't have it.

I'm going to order some; I'll let you know my experience.

I have really benefitted from this thread. Than you all for sharing your knowledge and experience. I am hoping to take care of the atrophic vaginitis with nutritional supplements and oils. I will include the Vitamin E. I'll be happy to share what I find.

This is my first post. I found this group about a month ago when I was searching for help with this problem. When I found this thread through Google, I thought I would try to get a hold of Vagifem, but I haven't located a doctor etc. - a place I feel good about going to - yet. I know what's going on; I just want the goods! The only symptom I have is the dryness and burning during intercourse. Otherwise nothing. But that is big!

I have taken care of all other postmenopausal symptoms ("warm" flashes, teariness at times) very successfully with supplements and herbs, but this vaginal dryness issue has not been aleviated. I am turning 60 in three months; my last period was Nov. 2000 - almost six years ago.

So, I'll let you know! Thank you, all. smile.gif

Hi- I have found another treatment for a dry inflamed vagina which i have been trying and seems to work. I have already been using vit.E capsules but I was finding they made me feel uncomfortably sticky to use every day. I cut down to twice a week but unfortunately that was a big mistake and intercourse has become so painful I actually bled last time.
I did some googling and found on quite a few different sites this treatment which is perfectly safe. You mix some aloe vera gel with slippery elm powder to make a paste and then apply inside and out the vagina at night.
There is one drawback-the paste is a yucky brown colour so I have to wear a panty liner. However I think it is worth it if it does the trick.
I have done a lot of googling on this subject and basically any oil is helpful. I would be interested to hear about this black oil and if it is any different from all the others. I have tried vit E, evening primrose, sweet almond with essential oils added, tea tree.....
All with limited success!
To be truthful the only thing that works is vagifem but I am not allowed to use it, even for a short while because I had endo cancer.

Hiya Silver Star and so glad to have you with us, yes this site is a life saver. I PM'd you the website for the salve I use and the name of the book for natural treatments. Also what I found with the many, many things I have tried that seemed to really help this last bout I had was Replens the long lasting one.
My salves usually would cover the problem but this last bout was a doozie and I was putting eveything and the kicthen sink up there.
So it seemed as if this last time , it wasnt so much a lack of estrogen but just plain dry so this along with another moisteruzer called Vagi-gard was great too, and an aloe vera gel called Skin gel ultimate skin treatment by AloeLife which I also like Janet mixed with the slippery elm powder . I will say though on the web site for this concoction (spelling) it did say to heat it up together and I ddint so next time I will follow directions better. I also like the Vit E suppositories. See you just have to try something and see what works that time.
On the website I gave you the girl will soon be offering a Lubricant to be used just for before sex so we will see about that.
Well I am really running late now but have a great day and good luck, Tinkybug
janet c
tinkybug-I have double checked and you dont need to heat the concoction. If you use slippery elm powder you just mix with the aloe vera and apply.I think if you use slippery elm in its raw state that is when you have to heat to extract the ingredients

ley me add it is not messsy to wear blink.gif not even your man knows I believe this applied on pubic area has softened hairs which all of a sudden had turned into barbed wire and has started growing in soft hair again which is why i put some oil in all hair care products we use and vagina is pretty again it looks ready for action not dry and tired yeah black seed oil has got it going on.And just last week had me crying cause my man wanted he no longer fit there was roughness inside that was killing me he did'nt understand and I did'nt want to speak to him this site really got me looking and when the butt burning and insde itching started well that was it.Now after a week of this oil he fits again rough insides are gone and i enjoy him again really enjoy him blink.gif he is as surprised as can be now that I be starting something of course he thinks he fixed it you know how they can be biggrin.gif and again i got relief right away.
