Hello to all Iam new here. I have enjoyed reading all your posts. I had a hysterectomy in 2000, And ever since then I just cant loose any weight. No matter what I do. I have been on a diet for the last 2mo. and nothing. I know hormones play a big part. Before the surgery I could always loose the weight, But I had to work at it. As I always had a weight problem. (I love to eat)
At this time I dont have health care till next month. But Iam on the patch. It helps with night sweets and all the other problems that come with menopause. Has anyone found anything they would recomend for more energy? I just dont know what to do anymore. I will be looking for a new Dr. as soon as I have Ins. again. But my Dr. now realy doesnt try to help, All she does is check my thyroid, and it is always fine. The weight and memory is just realy getting to me. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it very much!

Adding testosterone to my Estrace seemed to help me in the energy department too. Have you had your testosterone checked/evaluated?

I have not had a hysterectomy, but do have an awful time losing weight now that I'm 49 and in the throes of peri/meno. If you can, look up Dr. Elizabeth Vliet here. Her info on this [and ANY subject having to do w/ menopause] is great. I'm furiously reading her book on hormones and weight loss - 'cause the rules of how we lose weight change drastically once our hormones decline [suddenly in your case]. Energy levels are absolutely affected too...

According to Dr. V., menopausal women "have to work 4 times as hard to lose 1/2 the amount of weight as men." How's that for an uphill fight... blink.gif

Hang in there and best wishes on your insurance/new doctor situation,

new,
Does Dr. V have any ideas as to address these problems? Or is it just...work four times harder? (Ughhh).

dj,Try to get your new doctor to let you experiment with different types of hormones...maybe testosterone would help, or maybe a different amount of Estrace (or whatever you are taking). I like pills because it's easier for me to adjust, but I know there are issues with them. I found that taking 2 mg pills made me feel quite a bit better than 1 mg, but I had to request that--my doctor didn't come up with the idea.

Best of luck in this strange new world.
