I feel like I'm the "poster child" lately - posting here and there wtih one darn thing after another. A little over a week ago, I was dianogsed with shingles - on the back head/scalp. I had some burning prior to the diagnosis, but thankfully VERY VERY little pain. I've heard from people that said shingles was the worse pain they've ever had - I did NOT have that! I believe I responded to the antivrial meds well and the shingles didn't spread or erupt beyond a small area. That said, now, over a week later, I have a burning sensation that comes and goes - and is pretty brief when it comes - along the base of my spine and at the top of of my spine where the spine meets my neck and shoulder area. I would think this might be residual from the shingles - but then thought I'd post and see if anyone has burning skin other than vaginally (which, thankfully I've not had either). I continue to be amazed at the myriad of things that have come up for me since entering permi almost 2 years ago. From horrific fatigue to shingles to migraine heads to colon/stomach "stuff" ... I've had it all for the first time in my life! I am thankful that I'm much better now than I was a year ago. I just keep telling myself to be good to myself and also just keep "keeping on". If I don't, I know it will become overwhelmingly difficult and anxiety will be my next "visitor" ..it's easy for me to go down that road everytime I have a new symptom or an old one that returns with a vengance (like the fatigue right now). thanks all - I'd appreciate any feedback/experiences you've had with (non-vaginal) skin burning/sensations. Kathleen,

Sorry about your pain. Even though your shingles have seemed to clear up, the burning may be a complication or residual effect from the shingles.

You might try googling "post herpetic neuralgia."

My Mom has had shingles, and although the blisters clear up, sometimes she'll mention symptoms of burning, etc. The doc has told her it's post herpetic neuralgia.

Hope you feel better soon.
