Over the many, many months of hot flashes, tossing and turning, throwing off covers and clothes, etc. I have found myself to be exhausted in the mornings. A couple weeks ago, it dawned on me that I expend so much energy, at night, fighting the hot flashes to no avail (it didn't change anything!--it didn't stop the flashes, it didn't even lessen them-- and it was wearing me out)! Now, I just lie still and ride the wave. I know that nothing is going to change it so I just stay still and wait. They usually last about 2 minutes and I tell myself 'I can stand this for 2 minutes', I've endured worse things in life.! Now, I wake feeling more restful since I no longer waste all that energy and anxiety. Ya'll might want to think about trying to 'go with the flow', it's really working for me! cool.gif

hi iluvtolaff, I agree I do the same thing as you.The only difference is I have a little fan on my night stand, and as soon as I wake up I turn the fan on me and being that i am already wet I cool of much quicker.

Cathy, I leave my fan on all night and it just doesn't seem to help when the flashes strike, maybe it does ease them a little but I'm still just "going with the flow" until it stops. biggrin.gif

Is it a fan that is blowing dirrectly on you, because if i have only the ceiling fan on that doesn't work for me either.

I found that if I left the fan on all night, I STILL got flashes, but couldn't get the relief from the blowing air. Now I have the fan on, NOT blowing ON me, but above, to keep the air circulating around me. When I wake with a flash I use my hand-held to blow in my face, and it seems to work better! (and the "around instead of on" has let me go longer without waking, but I'm STILL up eventually!)

I usually have it blowing across the middle of the bed, but last night I had it in my face and had a very slight hot flash but still couldn't sleep well because of the wind in my face! Jeez! I can't win! laugh.gif

I get so cold at night with the chills more than hot flashes. I live in Arizona where it is very hot right now and have to run my AC at night and also use a fan. I am taking one Tylenol at bedtime along with Melatonin. I think the Tylenol may help to regulate my temperature but I wake up around 2 am and am cold again. I feel like I keep waking up all night cold and then hot and a little sweaty. I am going to try the Tylenol for a while. I am on supplements to hopefully deal with these symptoms but have not been on them long enough. I feel like I have a fever so maybe since Tylenol reduces fever, it may help.

Thanks so much iluvtolaff for your timely advice "ride the wave". I am in the early stages of night time flashing and I totally agree with you. I will continue to try to "ride the wave" and not get too distressed. I also say a little prayer and that calms me down too.

Trying sage tea this morning. Anybody had any joy from that? I'd be interested to hear.

Hi ilovetolaff,
I can't win either. I have a ceiling fan but can't turn it on because I also have a parrot. You know what I would have if he flew into it? Shredded Tweet! rolleyes.gif

Yikes! Not a good idea then!! Get a box fan or small fan and put near your bed (or would the air circulation disturb the bird--I know they shouldn't be in drafty areas.)

Hot flashes really are worse in hot weather, since mine have also flared up since it started getting warm.

Speaking of fans, here's what I do: I moved the bed to about two feet away from a wall. I placed a small floor fan on the other side of the bed, two feet away, and aimed it directly at the wall. The air hits the wall and then swirls around the bed, but there are no direct drafts. I also have a ceiling fan on medium speed. This whole system seems to keep the air moving nicely.

Good advice to "ride the wave," iluvtolaff. I have tried that and you are right. It's much less exhausing to just lie there quietly, because after the night sweats I get chilled. The only thing I do with a night sweat is I must throw the covers off or I roast, but I try to just throw them off quietly without thrashing, and after a few minutes, the good old chills start, and back on go the covers.

I know; it's all a real circus, complete with a merry-go-round and rollercoasters every night! mad.gif

[size=2][size=5]Hi Joy , I have the same problem I just can't get warm.and I live in Australia. My family thinks I am nuts. I dont take anything for it. I even sleep in my dressing gown and socks and warm up a wheat bag in the microwave to put at my feet. Maybe i need an Electric blanket. I do know what u are going through. I have looked up some studies on the net and found out that our body temperature will change with our hormone levels. But it did not give info on what to do about it. It does stop me from sleeping and I hate it!!! I will eventually get out of bed and make myself a hot drink with milk and milo. I do blame it on the hormones. It can only get better!!! HANG IN THERE!!!
