Nice to be a part of the group!!! biggrin.gif

I started menopause early in life around early 40's. By the time I got into full blown symptoms, hot flashes etc. I was not even 50 yet. I went on HRT for about 3-4 years to help control my hotflashes, I would get them on the way to work, what a pain that was, LOL, by the time I would get to work I would be soaking (somedays) Anyways, the hotflashes subsided, I was only getting them once in a blue moon so I stopped taking the meds a few years ago. Now the past couple of years I seem to be constantly cold, and always getting the chills!!! Can never walk in a freezer isle at the super market without a winter coat on, and at work it could be 70 degrees outside and I'm sitting at my desk with my mini heater blowing on me!!! Now if I am out in the warm sun, I'm fine, though it has to be at least 70 degrees out. Once I put on a sweater etc, I'm okay, but then after awhile I will have to shut the heater off because its starting to get a little too warm, so I shut it off and ten minutes later I'm chilly again!!! It seems like my body thermostat is all screwed up.
I have heard of most people getting hot flashes, but cold flashes??? Is that common also? I very seldom get a hot flash anymore, and if I do it is very mild. Its mostly chills!!! Constant chills!!! I have an app;t for my GYN coming up this month, seriously thinking of going back on HRT. Don't know if it will help or not, but I am tired of being the only one always cold!!! I turn the thermostat up, they turn it down!!! LOL

Anyone else out there have similar symptoms??

I don't think I have, I am having a complete physical soon, I will ask to have them do a test. I did think about that as a possible cause, but was thinking that it might just be hormones, even though it has been many years now since I have had my period..

After you have the thyroid checked...
I have been alternating hot and cold for about two years now. Have had great results with balancing with over-the-counter herbals and fish oil (tried many variations, found one that worked AND THEY DISCONTINUED IT! sad.gif )Best success now with a meno herbal from the local pharmacy, off the shelf, and added fish oil caps. I had to go through lots of experimenting to find a combination that works for me, but if nothing else is wrong, it doesn't hurt to try smile.gif
Best of luck!

I just started a Hi Health formula called Estro-Balance and Hi Health Evening of Primrose Oil.They are both guaranteed potency and may be getting some relief with the EPO on the night sweats. I don't know and need to give it more time. I hope they work. I have had some pretty uncomfortable nights. I was on HRT and most recently bioidenticals and tapered off a few months ago. I was on them a total of 13 years and felt like I owed it to myself to see how I would do without them. I don't want to ever go back on them at this point.

I really love this site. It has helped me cope with menopause. I am 60 years old and do not want to be on the hormones the rest of my life. I feel like a prisoner to them.

Hang in there and use this site as a survival technique.

Hello Sharon and everyone! Nice to be here!

I absolutely have the same symptoms. My story is menopause in late thirties, diagnosed COMPLETELY post menopausal by 44 and now am 51. I was diagnosed with hypothryoidism about 2 - 2.5 years ago(never overweight, just couldn't move and freezing all the time, couldn't stay awake, fell asleep driving, on john, on stepper working out (yes!), everywhere, thought I was going to die....) was put on Synthroid, no longer have the extreme fatigue, am very thin, tiny person (size 2, 3 or 4 same size as I was in high school, always maintatined my weight through proper exercise and diet), exercise a lot, don't get enuf sleep, am overly stressed (life stuff) and always have constant chills. I have severe Raynauds (fingers and toes too since early teen years, so not menopause related) and the being cold doesn't affect that as much as severe anxiety or stress. But being in a cold (freezer/refrigerated food aisle in market) environment does affect it.

Early morining when my Synthroid is worn off and I am due for another I have such severe chills and shudders that I can cause deep muscle spasms! I want to be warm!

I am on totally natural hormone replacement. Esnatri (triple estrogen cream) and Progesterone cream and if I feel low on Estradiol, I take about .25 mg of a plain Estradiol (tablet).

I know I have Candida issues and am on an Anti Candida regimen. Stress reactivates the darn thing and systemic Candida can cause such body issues it's unreal. I think Candida was responsible for the inflammtory thryoid disease as well as many other problems I face and have faced.

Are residual Candida issues coupled with menopause making me cold? I think about the thryoid, but since I am controlled with Synthroid and also taking plenty of thryoid supplements (herbal, tyrosine, iodide) I doubt my thryoid is hypo at this point. (It hasn't been registering as such).

Any thoughts?

Hi Sharon and Elliott,

Yay, some more of my "chilly" girlfriends! I too have that cold feeling, even when it's a really hot day I can feel cold. It's hard to explain, but my feelings seem like they are on the inside of my body and not the outside. I mean I don't get goosebumps on my skin or anything like that and they seem to come in waves of coldness, if that makes sense. I do feel hot sometimes, but mostly it's the crazy cold feelings. Sure is weird! I have been experiencing this, plus a whole heap of other crazy symptoms for 18 months and it is getting to be really annoying. Oh for the good old days when we all felt normal!
Take care now.
Hugs and kisses,
Pink Angel.

Hi there -

WOW, another thing I can attribute to perimenopause!!! The list just keeps on growing!!!

I am constantly cold. The joke in our family is that it can be 90F out and if there's a breeze, I'll get goosebumps. People don't believe me until they look at my arms. I also have my mini heater on at my desk at work all the time.

My husband and step daughter are ALWAYS warm, so trying to get a comfortable temperature for all of us in the house or the car means me having to bundle up. And then I still shiver. It's ridiculous.

This is one thing I won't miss when I'm done with this phase of my life!

I was always the cold one throughout my life too. I thought it was just because I was so much skinnier than everyone else and not having that extra layer of fat cells for warmth, but since menopause and my hormones dropping I have discovered that progesterone will make me quite cool while the estros and testosterone will warm me up. I was proge dominant during most of my menopause, so I also probably tended to be that way during my youth, so the high proge vs estro may help explain being so cold all my life.

Also, thiamine (b1) tends to warm me up so maybe you could try one of those ideas. (I would go with the thiamine or estriol first--I notice that testo w/o thiamine can make my upper body hot while my feet are freezing.)
TawanaNBD
Also for the woman who has chronic probs with candida, from my experience with proge dominance, it can cause serious immune problems. At its worst, even slight paper cuts would get infected and my groin nodes and tonsils were constantly swollen. I never got my hormones checked (gave up on conventional medicine), but you may get your proge levels checked at least. I have a Yahoo site about p-dom but I don't think you're sposed to post links but you can email me.

Also, weirdly, when I was on flaxseed oil I had a metallic taste in my mouth and a whitish coating on my tongue that I thought was candida for about two years. It completely disappeared when I went off flax, so I just thought I would mention that too. I know how numerous and disabling the meno problems can be.
