Hi,

I am so happy I found this site. I really am scared and need your input.

I have a question of what constitutes an irregular/erratic period. I am 45 and am sure I have peri symptoms for 5 yrs now. My period has been fairly normal, but the past yr. coming either at 25 days or 32. So they have been either a few days earlier or a few days later.

Well, on April 21 I got my period. It lasted about 3 days. Then a few days after it stopped, I suddenly one day had a gush and voila..clots passing and heavy bleeding for a few hours and then light again. Then it stopped a day or two. After that I spotted for over a week, and what happens today..it gets heavier again. All this in less than a month??????? This scares me cause I have always been fairly normal, but have had clots pass during past periods.

I have not been to the gyno in 6 yrs..I know, shame on me, but yesterday I made an appointment with a new gyno, but my appointment isn't until Aug. 4.

Is there anyone else who bleeds for almost a month as this now and then. Is this what they mean by erratic/irregular period. I always thought erratic/irregular meant shorter or longer cycles not bleeding off and on every few days all month. By the way, this is the first time this happened.

Please share your bleeding story. I need reassurance until I go in Aug. that this can happen with peri.

Thanks so much smile.gif

Hi countryangel,

I am sorry to hear about all this bleeding. I am surprised that the doctor did not want to see you sooner than August, that is so far away considering your bleeding. From what I have been reading, that could be normal hormonal fluctuation, but I was also told that any abnormal bleeding like that definitly needs to be checked out. I think most doctors prefer to hear perimenopause cycles are absent for a month or more rather than having periods come more than once a month, as it is now considered "abnormal bleeding." However, "abnormal bleeding" can also be hormonal fluctuations and is also symtoms of perimenopause. Am glad you are getting it checked out though. If you start bleeding real heavy though at any time, I would call them back and see if I can get in earlier. Just my 2 cents. Take care and good luck

Countryangel,

Do have this checked, but don't freak out - it is NORMAL for periods to be all over the place with peri! I would go weeks spotting every single day, have periods that lasted 3 days, periods that lasted 20 days!

My doc explained that when hormones are constantly fluctuating, the uterine wall is constantly being built up and shedding, hence the odd, sometimes constant bleeding, the clots, the "brown blood," etc.

For years we read scary articles in magazines about watching for any irregular bleeding, etc., but NO ONE tells us that this is not at all uncommon at this point in our lives.

Again, it's always wise just to run this past your doctor (I did), but for me, it was good old peri. wink.gif
