Hello ladies,
Like you...burning, pain, sometimes itching. And to add misery, bleeding after sex, pain (and I mean PAIN) during it. One doctor suggested I was not being "turned on" enough, which is not the case. I am 48 years old and very near menopausal, according to blood tests and my infrequent periods, so clearly this idiot knows nothing about the body in meno.
Found a new doctor and just started trying ESTRACE. It's perscribed as three times a week and it's only been a week so far. No change, other than the burning gets worse right after I use it. The new doctor said if the ESTRACE doesn't help after a month, then this constant redness, pain and bleeding after sex would probably be "vestibular vaginitis." Does anyone know if this is the same as "lichen sclerosis?" I was even bleeding slightly after the exam. And yes, it hurt in that tearing, dry way.
This is so hard pschologically, as well as physically.
What used to be easy, is now unbelievably difficult. Sex is a method of human connection, and to be denied that connection is unfair, unhealthy and makes me so sad. Now that I've experienced so much pain with sex, every time it comes up (no pun intended), all I can feel is anxiety about it hurting. It's so frustrating and very isolating. Is anyone else at this particular place? Does this ever get better on it's own, or is it just at the beginning of menopause, as I am? I look at older couples strolling along and wonder: is sex over for them? I hope not.
But people (women) never talk about this openly...where is Oprah on all this?!?!?!?! Shouldn't she be devoting month-long programming to this enormous health issue? As far as I'm concerned, it's part of my physical life and mental life every single day and it's a very, very difficult struggle.
There are all these TV ads for Viagra and Cialis, directed at men so they can maintain their sexuality and confidence...what about us?
I also have another sexuality question: using Estrace 3 times a week still seems to leave some "behind" deep inside the vagina, even on the days when I don't apply it. Does anyone know how or if that can affect your partner? I can't imagine it's a good thing for men to come in contact with? I never thought to ask the doctor this while I was there...has anyone ever questioned this?
Thanks, in advance, to anybody who has any advice.
