Hello all,
This is my first time here. After viewing some of the posts, I'm excited about hearing your point of view on my problem. Ok, so here's the deal. I'm 44 years old and I'm not sure what's happening to me. Let me say that I do have a dr appt next week. I had my last period on April 1st and it was normal for me. I usually get mine every 23 days and that's been like that for about 1 1/2 years now. Well I figured I was due on April 23 but on the 17th i started to spot. I never spot. Very weird for me. Well I spotted for like 5 days on and off, just needed a light day pad. Well about a week after that, I got my period. I think that's what it was but it was abnormal. Lots of clotting and then it went back to spotting. So two days ago, I got a massive headache and yesterday I was out of commission. I was dizzy, didn't feel like myself and now i'm having chills right along with this. My knees and hips ache and I just don't feel like myself. My cheekbones ache and I'm not one for sinus problems. I just don't feel like myself. My head is cloudy and I'm a nervous wreck. I did that menopause kit but it came up negative. But that could be because I'm not actually there yet. I'm dizzy too! I'm so sorry for yakking but I'm glad you're here. Oh, and I feel like I'm having a heart attack!
Could this be the start of peri???

Sounds like it to me - when one awakens one morning and does not recognize themselves - pretty sure you are on this "ride" of your life, with lots of sisters on PS.

Ooooh Yeah. I pretty much feel like crud 90% of the time. I mean it feels like I'm dying of some weird disease or an alien has taken control of my body. Welcome to PS and the world of perimenopause.

Thanks!
Do you get nauseated (sp?) and burp all the time or do you think that might be something else. I keep thinking i have a disease and it's a bad one. I'm nauseated and get this one.... my hands are always freezing... I don't have night sweats or hot flashes (not sure what those are yet)....
Is there a test for peri? the over the counter men test came back negative.
I feel foggy right now, cold hands, nauseated, dizzy and feel like sleeping. that's when i feel best!
Yikes

From what I've read peri is a hard thing to test for. The hormones are in constant flux and most of the time the results from blood tests will come back normal.
Yes, nausea/bloating/gas/acid reflux is very common. Fun, isn't it?

oh brother....i'm a wreck! thank you for the reply. i read on one of these forums that being cold and clammy is a bad thing not peri. my hands have been frozen for a few days now... of course, being anxious, i think i'm going to die now from horrible disease.
have you ever heard of peri getting chills, cold hands, etc.?
thanks!

Hi tcclark,
It could possibly be peri, but you are doing the right thing by going to your doctor, as any unusual bleeding, I believe, should always be checked out first. Might also get checked out for your thyroid as well and other blood work. I imagine you will find yourself right back here once you hear it is Peri from the doc! Good luck and I hope you feel better. Take care.

Thank you for your reply. Now I'm really nervous! I just went and checked my blood pressure at a drug store and it read 135 over 89.... that's way high isn't it? I just keep thinking something is wrong with me.

Hi, am not sure if that is high or now. Try not to work yourself up that can raise your blood pressure. Just last week while having all my tests done, at one doc, my blood pressure was 150/80, that is high for me. It has never been that high. But I was so anxious and nervous and stressed out, that could have been the reason. I went to another doctor following week, my pressure was down to 110/70, then went back to same doc for followup and it was down to 105/70. I guess I was more relaxed. But if you are really concerned, why don't you give your doc a call and explain how you feel and give your blood pressure reading and see what he/she says. Try to calm down. I have been having awful symptoms myself, but they tell me they cannot find anything wrong and recommended a psychiatrist for anxiety. I still say the hormone fluctuations have me feeling this way cause my anxiety was never like this in the past before I started having irregular periods and low progesterone on my test. I will go to the gyno again next week for another procedure and I will talk to her and let her know exactly how I feel and see if she can recommend progesterone. I want to see if I will notice a difference. Will also try and see if I can get in to see the psych. I really hope you feel better. MIght just be peri. Good luck

Hi tclark,
First of all let me say you are doing the right thing going to your doctor and getting checked out. What you are describing, (foggy head, nauseated, acid reflux, etc.) is anxiety. You could have been typing this for me
2 years ago when this all started. I too was 44 at the time. I didn't know what was happening to me. I
went to countless doctors, had every test known to man, I too thought I was dying of some terrible
disease. I am sure you are starting peri. If you read further on this board you will find alot of women
with these same symptoms. Please do not scare yourself. I know how you feel I have been there many times.
Hang in there, you have come to the right place, we are all in this toghether.
Lots of love,
superflower

Thank you so much for your support.
I did have anxiety before but this blood pressure thing is new... 130 over 89... not sure
I will ask for a complete blood count to see what if anything is up.
Thanks again.

tclark definitely perio-meno. I am 45 yrs. old and have had numerous symptoms for yrs. now but two months ago I experienced something similar to you for the first time. I spotted two weeks before a period was even due on and off for 5 days and had myself crazy thinking I had something terribly wrong with me. Had my yrly. exam and pap and dr. thought she felt a cyst just as I was spotting so I went for a ultrasound and everything was just fine no cyst.
Spotting is just breakthru bleeding because our horomones are so out of whack. I also got a period two wks. after that for just two days. My periods now are really nuts. Sometimes 23 days and sometimes 55 days - never know anymore. Also had that dizziness few years back and nauseau just comes out of the blue. Cat - E

Hi and thank you all for replying. I've noticed probably over the past 6 months that the day after my period ends, I feel sick... Sometimes flu-like and other times like this past week and sometimes an ache on my right side (waisteline and up under my right rib, feels swollen Not to the touch though). Not as bad as this past sunday since i have the headache from hell but being nauseated, strange feeling in my head... sometimes it feels like it's coming from the top of my neck.... my stomach looks like i'm 3 months pregnant and i have gained about 10 pounds since last year. however, i have been eating more.... chocolate! that's another thing.. so many sweets i crave. perhaps this is anxiety that i'm feeling but the spotting makes me think it's something else.
Will a gyny do a complete blood count if i ask for it? i would like that along with the gallbladder and thyroid test too. i hope she doesn't make me go to my primary for this... i want it done now...
sorry for yakking AGAIN.
