Hey ladies, I have a question. I was told a few months ago that I have a fibroid. I know fibroids can cause all sorts of problems. Heavy menstrual bleeding, pain, pressure, etc... So far, it's not caused me too much trouble; a little pressure but that's about it.

Today I got my period. For the first time since being told I have a fibroid, my period is very heavy. It's only the first day so it could be just because its the first day and its usually heavy on the first day.

I'm sorry if this is a little too much information, but I went to the bathroom to pee and when I wiped there was a lot of blood so I thought the tampon needed to be changed. I pulled it out but it wasn't even bloody. How could I have that much blood on the toilet paper and nothing on the tampon? huh.gif

Hi Curly,

Sorry you've not gotten any earlier replies here.

It's common to have very heavy bleeding with perimenopause, even WITHOUT fibroids, and they certainly don't help! Toward the end of my cycles, I couldn't even leave the house for fear of bleeding all over car seats, etc., and this with a super-heavy pad AND a tampon.

Not sure why you had blood on the tissue and not on the tampon - that's strange!

Hi Curly,

I also was diagnosed with a fibroid 2 years ago that was 8 cm in circumfrance. I am petite, 5'5" and my doc and I decided to watch and wait. My only symptoms were pressure on my bladder and heavy periods which I have always had so we decided to watch and wait.

Please keep an eye on your monthly flow and if it continues to get worse please see your doctor as excessive bleeding from fibroids can deplete your iron levels and you may become anemic. That happened to me! Now I have two aliens in my uterus and I am presently waiting to see my gyno to do something about them as I do not looking 4 months pregnant! Fibroids are very common in women during peri and a lot of the time they do not pose any problems. But if you feel you are bleeding more, getting tired or having some discomfort, please do not hesitate to see your doctor.

There are various ways of treating fibroids today.

Take care,

Kathryn
