Full Version: Sneaky Hot Flashes?

I believe I'm having more hot flashes than I'm aware of. I think a lot of my sudden nausea, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath is really hot flashes going on. I wake up in the middle of night with massive butterflies in my stomach. I get up and then the heart rate is going a million miles a minute. I'm usually wobbly and can't breathe. Last night I broke out in a sweat in the back of my neck. I work out a lot (in spite of this cr$p mad.gif ) so maybe that's why I don't feel the extreme heat.

Any thoughts out there?

PS: I had the whole heart shabang last year with no indication of heart disease/issues.

HEY ... THE EATING THING STARTED WITH ME ABOUT 1-2 YEARS AGO... RIGHT AFTER I QUIT THE DEPO PROVERA SHOT....I JUST ALWAYS FELT BETTER WHEN I WOKE UP IF I CRAMED FOOD IN MY MOUTH....THIS IS WEIRD. NOW I HAVE FLASHES WITHOUT THE SWEATING...JUST NERVOUS FEELING AND SHAKY WITH FAST HEART RATE....TOO WEIRD...ARE WE THE SAME PERSON? blink.gif
Bigheart
so this is a symptom of peri? for the last 6 months, i have been waking feeling shaky, short of breath, heart racing which makes me want to eat. i think that is the reason for my rapid weight gain. as soon as i eat a couple handfuls of any snack i can find, i go back to sleep. my sister used to do this years ago (she's 7 year older than me) and i never would have guessed it was peri-related. ( the eating part). i have never woke up hungry until peri. i never even thought of food until around lunchtime. this is the pits blink.gif

I dunno Patrice, your symptoms sounds more like hypoglycemia. When I get the sneaky adrenaline rushes/flashes, the last thing I want to do is eat because I usually have nausea as well.

Hi Gia,

Actually I suffered with both kinds. The one you describe went on for a few years for me. I always felt like I was going to die, I would have a hard time catching a breath and my heart would be beating so hard. Then I would start to rush to the bathroom because I would feel sick. Before I could even get out of bed, a hot flash would hit. I never felt hungry at all then, but now I get the same attacks only without the nausea and I'm hungry. My symptoms sound exactly like sbertz69. It's really weird.

smile.gif ACCORDING TO WHAT I HAVE READ.. ALL HORMONES START PUSHING OUT WHEN YOU FLUSH ETC. I HAD A DR. TELL ME THAT SUGAR WILL ALSO GO UP OR DOWN... THIS COULD BE WHY WE ARE CRAMING FOOD IN OUR MOUTHS... JUST A THOUGHT.

Hi Bigheart!! I was going to say I'm so glad that someone else out there has the same weird hunger pangs in the middle of the night like I do, but actually I should say you have ALL my sympathy!!!! It's an everynight thing with me. Talk about weight gain!!!!!!!!!!!! If it wasn't so awful this symptom is actually kind of funny. Last night on my first hunger attack I had no choice but to eat dinner leftovers. Fish at midnight doesn't set real well!!! Talk about nausea.YUK Nest raid I found some leftover asparagus. Needless to say I "verped" all night. Every night raid is always an adventure. I guess I should plan my dinner menus to be more compatable for my late night raids. Actually one night I woke up with half a cookie in my mouth and the rest smeared all over my pillow. Real sexy huh!!

I can just picture that cookie. Was it chocolate? laugh.gif I actually have a big jar of mixed nuts and if that doesn't do it, than grab a handful of Vanilla Wafers. I have been know to just grab a box of dry cereal and eat it straight out of the box, and I don't even like dry cereal. I just have to have something. It would help if I could just keep the snacks out of my apartment, but the willpower is just not there. I think if I didn't have them on hand, I would probably make a run in the middle of the night. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Ya Big Heart Chocolate chip , I actually left out that fact because it really did looking disgusting all over my mouth and on my pillow!!! Thinking about it now I can't help but laugh!!! I tried the not having anything in the house to eat and I was like a vicious caged animal looking for food!!! The garbage can was almost not safe!!! The more I picture myself at night on my hourly raids the more I'm smiling. What a sight!!! I wish I could laugh like this about all my other symptoms. BUt I guess one out of 35 is better than none.

I'm so glad all you ladies are willing to share your stories!
So much of life with this can be doom and gloom! And the lighter side of it really helps! laugh.gif It's so good to have these places to go and read and then not feel like such an alien in my own body!! Thanks!

As someone mentioned, these hunger, shakey attacks in the night sound like blood sugar problems. Type ll diabetes often shows up in 40s to 50s. I had alot of this with my third pregnancy, and I ended up with gestational diabetes. I would urge these gals to have a fasting blood sugar. Sometimes a radical diet change will control blood sugars without meds. Low carb, switching to whole grain foods , increasing protein, and avoiding the very thing they are craving, fast burning carbs. Eating cookies and such WOULD send you into the cycle of waking and up over and over when you are diabetic.
