I take 25 mg of Zoloft rx'd for anxiety. Can this cause hot flashes? I do get night sweats off and on but yesterday was the first time I had a hot flash. Thank goodness it was a cool day outside! Any help is much appreciated.

I got hot flashes from taking Lexapro which is an SSRI like Zoloft. They went away after a few days. I know that they are definitely a side effect of the medication.

I got a few hot flashes when I started citalopram but they wore off after a couple of weeks and it now seems to have stopped the ones I was getting before I started it. I know that hot flashes can be a side effect - increased sweating etc. too.
How long have you been taking it? If it's early days maybe the effect will wear off.

Apparently they can. My dd just read this and said she used to get them! Her ears would turn bright red!

I have been taking my Zoloft for over 3 weeks so I find it strange to just now be getting them. I did take Prozac weeks before the Zoloft and I know I had hot flashes with the Prozac along with every other side effect. But I am only taking 25 mgs. of Zoloft which is such a low dose. Go figure. I think I am just in the beginning stages of peri-menopause (even thought my doc thinks I am nuts). My mother started in her 30's and finished at 48. I am almost 40. But how else do you explain the dryness, thinning hair, anxiety, GI problems, heart palpatations/PVC's, internal tremors and occasional night sweats?
Thanks!
Stephanie
