Full Version: Cramps but no period...What's up?
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?
sensei
Hi. I am new to this forum. I'm a lilttle baffled. I turned 40 in January and have had pretty normal periods my whole life. This week I started cramping, like I always do, but no period. I have no idea what is going on. I have spoken to some friends that have gone through menopause, but they say they never had these symptoms. Overall, I feel like I always do when I am on my period, but still no period. My mother says I'm pregnant--God forbid!!! I have a doctor's appointment next week and really don't know what to ask her or tell her. I am having none of the other peri-meno symptoms--at least none that I know of. Any suggestions. Thanks

Hi Sensei

Yes I used to get that when I first started peri( although I didn't know at the time it was peri ) my body and mind felt ready for my period but ............no bleeding !!

When I missed a month I went to the docs and she insisted I do pregnancy test even though I knew I wasn't pregnant !!

Anyway that was 4 years ago and I started missing months on and off but always had the symptons of periods , now I haven't had a period since December but still get a funny tummy around that time of the month !

Anyway best get it checked out by the doc but don't worry about it rolleyes.gif

It's called a 'phantom period'. There is a thread on it here. Just search for that phrase.

Here's the link to the 'phantom periods' thread.............

iluvtolaff is right, they are phantom periods. I suffered with them throughout my 40's too.

Hi there. I'm new to the forum as well. I'm 44 and haven't had a period in 4 months. However, each and every month it "feels like" I'm going to start. Sore breasts, bloating, retaining water, cramping...but nothing. No period. If the darn thing isn't going to actually happen, I wish the symptoms would disappear along with it.

From what I understand - it's perfectly normal. I guess "welcome to your 40's."
