Hello All,

I just found this wonderful site searching the net for info on perimenopause. I've already found so much information tha is so helpful.

My current horrible symtom is the itching prickly skin. Sometimes like lil rashy red bumps..then they go away. It happens mostly at night??!! I try not to scratch but it's very hard not to do so. Has anyone else experienced this? Have any solutions? I've tried all kinds of anti-itch creams etc. but no real relief has taken place. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Noonie and welcome to Power Surge! Yes, I get exactly what you are describing. And it's very annoying. The only solution I have found for this particular symptom is Aveeno bath soak. I get a tub of water with not TOO hot water (because that makes it itch worse!) and I soak as long as I can without turning into a prune! LOL!! If it gets really persistent, sometimes I take an antihistimine and it seems to help!
GOOD LUCK!

Hi and welcome to the group....................I too have experienced the same rash you are talking about. There is a condition associated with peri but the name escapes me........there are alot of knowledgeable women here who can give you the name of it though.
I have found that since peri started I have become allergic or more sensitive to things that never bothered me before. Detergents, fabric softeners, even some fabrics now cause me to itch and get that similar type of rash. It happened to me just over a week ago and I actually bruised myself from scratching at it so forcefully! Then I noticed than whenever I went into the basement I would start to sneeze uncontrollably........so put two and two together and quickly realized that the scented Snuggle I had bought was the culprit. Three days after not using it on my clothing the rash and itch disappeared. Hope this gives you some thoughts.........................the other girls here are great and can give you their two cents worth as well.

Hi Dorry

Welcome to PS

Best thing to do when you first arrive is to read through how to use the site and get to know the different forums - there is so much to read!!!! You will soon be an old hand and know more about peri than your Dr!!!!

RE your tongue - You could start a new topic in a forum or you can search to find if there is any subject like this in the forums already - perhaps in area dealing with digestion?

I have looked on the web and a coated tongue/swollen tongue can mean lots of things or not! I know chinese medics look at the tongue dont they - coating may mean your diet needs adjusting - the swelling could be hormonal (thyroid?). My tongue is slightly swollen and has slight teeth marks in the edge - where I grind my teeth cos I am stressed - I am working on stopping doing that and it is slightly better - and i have adjusted my diet to be much more healthy than it was - fresh fruit and veg now form bulk of what I eat - and I drink lots of water!

Enjoy PS

Hi All!

I accidentally stumbled on an itch reliever that works. I have a patch on my upper left arm that has been driving me CRAZY! Anyway, I had been using aloe vera gel (which helped only a little) and one night I ran out. I was frantically trying to find something in my medicine arsenal when my daughter (god bless her) brought out her sunburn gel. It contains aloe vera, tea tree oil and lidocaine. I hope I am not violating any rules here by giving the name brand, so here goes, it is called Ocean Potion. I bought it at Walmart's. It has helped better than anything I have tried yet! I sure will be glad when all or at least most of these symptoms settle down. I no sooner get rid of one when two more take it's place. huh.gif Oh well, hopefully, this too will pass. rolleyes.gif Hope this helps someone else. Hugs, Susan

maybe try stopping using soap. i use a non soap wash, or i've used Dove moisturising bars.. sometimes the itch is a rash, or other form of skin condition, like Lichen Sclerosis or a form of dermatitis, sometimes it's just the result of harsh soaps and dryness, or a sudden reaction to laundry detergents and as another has said, fabric softeners.. wear cotton next to your skin, not any synthetics.. no tight clothes etc.. you may need to find an ointment or cream that will assist with moisturising.. see a doctor, or a nurse if it's bad! don't scratch!!

This sounds like a rash I get on the skin over my shinbones. It's worse in summer, fades just a bit in winter but never quite goes away.

The product I'm going to mention doesn't help this particular problem, but I'm going to pass it on because it is ridiculous how good this stuff is.

It's Lander Advanced Skin Lubricating Lotion, and it's available at Dollar Tree stores. Yes, Dollar Tree stores. A 20-oz. bottle is a dollar. I've had bad dry skin everywhere ever since starting meno. I've tried Nivea lotions, Eucerin, Gold Bond Advanced Healing, everything. And this lovely, light, silky-feeling, quick-absorbing lotion from a dollar store is the only thing that works. Go figure.

I've had a myriad of rashes and itching throughout my lifetime, but especially during my perimenopausal years and, like many of you, I tried many different products.

Only recently -- in fact so recently -- I've discovered a new product and simply haven't had an opportunity to add it to my article about Dry Skin At Midlife.

I was going through a battery of tests for all sorts of auto-immune problems. One was a biopsy of my skin to determine if the rash on my arms, and occasionally on my face, was due to Lupus. The Dermatologist said it looked exactly like a Lupus rash. I first found using Eucerin soothing, but he suggested I go out and treat myself to some Cerave. My immediate reaction was "treat myself" meant it was probably another expensive cream. I'd never heard of it before. It isn't an expensive cream. Not only did I buy the skin cream, which did wonders for the rash on my arms, but I bought the face cleansing lotion and the body lotion as well. I've used so many of the most expensive brands of creams (prescription and OTC), and most of the less expensive ones as well.

The rash disappeared beautifully since starting the Cerave. I also started using the big jar of cream on my face. It gives the face especially such a beautifully HYDRATED look, it's amazing. Along with that, it works wonderfully on my rashes.

I must add this to the site's article about dry skin at midlife (link above), but if you want to do yourself a favor, try the Cerave cream. You can pick it up in any CVS, Rite-Aid, etc., for about $12-!5.00. I've used it every day for the past month and it's absolutely wonderful -- plus, the rash hasn't reappeared since.

Dearest, thank you so much for this post. It's always good to read your comments, and equally good to hear about an inexpensive lotion that is effective. I have a CVS and Rite-Aid in my area, so will definitely check it out next time I'm in town.

Summertime in the rural South has me itching and scratching from the heat, insect bites and contact with various weeds, and I've found good relief from aloe vera lotions. The one I'm using now is 98% aloe (with no alcohol), and though second best to the real plant juice, I find it so cooling on my skin.

Dearest,

Did that Cervae cream deal with an ITCHING rash?
Or just a rash in general?

Whats in it that you think did the trick?
