I have had the twitching for about 18 months now and yes it is worse at night. When it first started I had it in my arms, calves and feet. Now I only have it in my calves and feet but it is continous all day long. When I am either sitting or in bed is when I feel it most. There are many others who have this and there is a long thread on it. I think it is called twitching and jerking but I am not sure. Don't worry I had all the tests from the neurologist and everything was normal.

I have tried the calcium/magnesium and it actually does seem to help calm mine down. They are still there but not as intense. I have kind of become use to them since I have had it for so long. My twitching is more like little hiccups all over my calf continously. I mostly have it only in my left. The doctor asked if I wanted to try neurontin for them but my sister takes that and said it makes her really tired. I really don't need that. I am sure other people have tried things. Maybe someone else will have another idea. The supplement I take is 600 mg of magnesium and 1200 of calcium. They are in one pill that I take twice a day. Hope this helps!

I get it at times in my upper or lower eyelid. Just annoying! It's like a spasm. May last for seconds or on and off over a day.

Hi Helene - I also have had it on my eyelid in the past and it lasted weeks sometimes. Very annoying and you feel like everyone can see it but probably not. cat-e

Hi Cat-e
I am a fellow twitcher - and an internal shaker
My twitching bothers me most at night - it reaches its apogee when I am dropping off to sleep and I get sleep starts - never had them much before peri - now I feel like I am leaping off the bed at times.
I too have had tests from various Docs who says there is nothing wrong - they wont say it is menopause of course (bless them

)- usually they say it is anxiety (yawn). I have been told it is something to do with adrenaline not letting the body relax at night - like a guard dropping off to sleep and he starts awake again -that made sense to me and made me less scared of it. I also think it is something to do with my changing hormone levels affecting my nervous system and smooth muscle function in the body - it is such a complex balance - who knows? All I know is it is flipping annoying....
I used to be very scared of it - now I try to ignore it - I am still on sleepers cos the twitching wont let me go to sleep - but I am cutting down.
I have tried supplements and they made no difference although I am still on them more for me bones than other symptoms. I am also trying to do more exercise including muscle toning and strenthening to see if that helps -???
Sounds like another peri symptom to me - my entire body is a new experience for me this year - nothing much surprises me now!!
Love

Hey Mele thanks for all your input. When you have the int. shaking do your hands tremor ? Iv'e been having that also. I can't fall asleep at night for nothing anymore. Do you have any advice for insomnia. I'm not a big believer in drugs i would rather take something alternative. Thanks again - Cat-e

Cat-e and Helene,
I get the upper eye twitching and some facial twitching also on my upper brow and also around my mouth.
It is like a muscle spasm. I thought maybe it was the prozac but I had some of this already before the prozac.

Plumeria - (one of my fav flowers)
In the recent past, I would get the twitching whenever I wasn't on Prozac, or I cut too low on the dosage. It's like a prelude of the worse stuff yet to come, like anxiety/panic attacks, if I didn't increase dosage or get back on the Prozac again. Kind of like warning signs. Now I get mild ones that don't last long usually around 2 weeks before my period. All part of the enhanced perimenopausal stuff now. Lovely. Right now I have no plans on getting off the Prozac soon. It's a wait and see game.

I get twitching everywhere...you name the body part I have experienced it there*sighs*....body I have learned to just deal with it I guess....the eye twitching is probably the one that annoys me the most, though.
I know that no one can see it twitching, but it still feels like everyone is looking at me when it happens...
Have a great Monday

Cat-e, I saw your posting asking if anyone had the hand tremors. My hands tremor too. It is more like the jitters, or when I hold something. I was worried about Parkinson’s because my mom has that. I got so worried I started to get a lot of anxiety which I think caused the twitching like you are experiencing as well. I went to the Neurologist and he said it is not Parkinson’s. After finding Power Surge I now think it is just Peri. So glad to hear that someone else has experienced some of the same symptoms that I am. Maybe now I can sleep and eat again and stop worrying about what is causing this. Thanks for you note.

I get those tremors too. It's kind of embarrassing, especially at work when I'm trying to show someone a paper or something.
I notice it mostly when I'm hungry so I wonder if it's somehow related to low blood sugar. I seem to get it the most in the morning too. Sometimes it makes it very hard to type because my fingers just don't want to work right.
I was talking to my husband online the other day and usually I will fix words before I send them but I had told him I had the shakes so when one of the words came out really bad, I just sent it to him that way. We both had a good laugh over that one!
