Anyone out there think that having your tubes tied can cause peri? I was 35 when I had my tubes tied. I am 38 now and believe that I am in peri. There is a web site out there that is trying to pass legislation for drs to inform women that tubals can cause early menopause. Has this happened to any of you?

Hi Ya,

I had a tubal when I was 29 followed exactly one year later by a partial hysterectomy due to the increased bleeding from the tubal. I have read that a tubal of couse causes a blood supply deprivation to the ovaries as does a hysterectomy. I started peri in my late 30's.....I do believe it was actually around 37 when the symptoms first hit. So yes.......if you read up on it......they do indicate that this type of surgery can contribute to earlier meno.

I also had a tubal done at 29 years old. I've heard from different people that having your tubes tied early CAN bring on menopause sooner than those that don't have it done, or have it done later in life. Truth to it? I'm not sure. But I was around 38 when all of the peri symptoms started hitting me ~ it's funny too, because looking back on it, as the years have progressed, the whole menopause thing has changed dramatically with me. In the beginning, it was BIG TIME anxiety: dizziness, fear, inability to sleep. These symptoms have really lessened over the years and now it's different symptoms: skipping periods, hot flashes, stomach woes, worsened headaches, more sinus/allergy problems. This whole thing is very strange. Isn't it funny, too, how we can talk about all of this so freely and openly? Good God my Mother would've DIED before she even SAID the word menopause! lol~ laugh.gif
Maybe we should do a survey of the ages ladies were when they first started noticing symptoms, and whether or not they had their tubes tied? Just a thought!

I had my tubes tied at 29 years old also. A long time OB/Gyn nurse told me that having your tubes tied reduces the blood supply to the ovaries by about 1/3 and that there was a high incidence of problems tied to that reduced blood supply roughly 10 years following ligation. I had a week of constant palpitations with a period in August 2000 (which would have put me at 44) and the insomnia started suddenly in January of 2001 (still age 44). I have been erroneously saying for years that the insomnia started in January of 2002 but the palpitations happened during the month I started a huge cross-stitching (60 hours a week for almost 3 months to complete) and I looked up the date the project photo was published in my club's newsletter and it was November of 2000. The sleep problems followed after the holidays in mid January... which means I have had insomnia for OVER 5 years instead of 4...yuck!! sad.gif

Hmmm, interesting questions smile.gif ... I had my tubes tied when I was 22 yoa... Had a partial hyster. when I was 36 (I think that's how old I was blink.gif )... Interesting enough - I had my first panic attack that made me run to the ER was when I was 35... So I believe I started Peri. when I was 35...and it's been a roller coaster... So it was 13 yrs. that have gone by between the tube tied and Peri.

I'm now 46 and I've noticed that alot of the peri. symptoms have subsided for longer periods of time - and then the symptoms hits again (insomniac, anger, sadness, etc.).

I was 26 when I had my tubes tied. Didn't start with any symptoms until I was 36 or so and that was just the irregular periods, which no one attributed to peri. The rest of my symptoms, anxiety, palps, stomach woes, hot flashes, etc., didn't start until I was 46.

I really didn't have any problems that I could see with having my tubes tied. My mother and aunts also went through meno in their late 40's so I figure I'm right on time!

I had tubal ligation at 33 due to ectopic pregnancies (yes, both side, very unusual case) that almost costed me my life. Intersting that afetr the surgery, I've started growing hair on my legs and upper lip, that I did not have before. I think my peri symptoms started in middle 30s, I just did not pay attention to them: some anxiety, ocational night sweats, achiness. I too read that tubal ligation can cut off ovarian blood supply, but on a positive side can somehow lessen ovarian cancer risk. I had no choice at the time of surgery but it eliminated ned for BCP and fear of getting pregnant, so less anxiety in this department. dry.gif
Also, I had bad migranes before tubal, and after they dissapeared, but could be coincidence. My periods did not change, they were regular until very recently. I am 49 now and have had some perimenopausal symptoms for the past few years (mostly digestive issues), and for the past year - more anxiety and achiness.
No one can tell for sure what is going on inside our bodies, some women go through early menopause even without tubal. I don't think 49 is too early , even I still have my periods (back to 28 days now) and no hot flushes. I also read that it's quite normal to have some hormonal fluctuation starting mid 30s, regardless of tubal.

Did for me, although I had no idea at the time.

I had my tubes tied at 37, 5 weeks later I had an cyst/ovary removed and hormones were sent into overdrive ... gyn said I should be fine with one ovary ... yeah right.

I had no idea for like 8 months what was happening to me (I also quit smoking 4 months after the surgery and blamed EVERYTHING on that !) , then I was given Dr. Lee's book and it all made sense to me.

So I have been in perimenopause for 6 years now ... wow (that sounded like an addiction admission) ...

While mentioning at work that I was in peri because of a tubal, another women quickly commented that a tubal doesn't cause peri. I am here to join in and say....at the top of my lungs...YES IT DOES! laugh.gif The only good thing about this....I hope, is that we will get this over earlier????!!!!

Well, my story is I had a tubal at 36, and have been on a hormonal roller coaster ever since. Anxiety, panic attacks, crying jags, irregular periods, irritability, a whole list of things I had NEVER had before. Did a lot of reading, and found it is not uncommon after a tubal, so I'm willing to blame it on that. Don't know if it is truly the onset of peri-, but seems strange the symptoms are about the same.

I wish the Dr.'s would warn you about the possible side effects, but I had no warning at all, and had to dig up the answers myself. Didn't have a clue it might be related; just thought I was going "middle age crazy".

This is so interesting. I have been having a horrible hormonal problems for about 10 years since I was 39. I, too, had a tubal at 29. My mother and grandmother both said menopause was a walk in the park. I have been wondering if they had selective memory or is something different with me. After reading this, the tubal must have something to do with it.

Hi all! I'm new here and just want to add that I had my tubal when I was almost 27 and have been noticing perimenopause symptoms in the last year--but I'm now 48 so the tubal is not connected. I did start having migraines and very long, heavy periods within a year or so of the tubal and I've always wondered if that was somehow connected. Hmmm...
