I love Carrie Underwoods Jesus, take the wheel. That how I get my house cleaned. Put on headphone. Makes that person in my go away.

When I had a depressive dip in December, my hub emailed me the words of the song "We Walk the Same Line" by the band Everything But The Girl:

If you lose your faith, babe, you can have mine.
And if you're lost, I'm right behind
'cause we walk the same line.

Now, I don't have to tell you how slow the night can go,
I know you've watched for the light.
And I bet you could tell me how slowly four follows three,
and you're most forlorn just before dawn.

And I don't even mind how loud the phone can ring
When you're waiting for news.
And that big old moon lights every corner of the room.
Your back aches from lying and you head aches from crying.

And if these troubles should vanish like rain at midday,
well, I've no doubt there'll be more.
And we can't run and we can't cheat,
'cause baby when we meet what we're afraid of,
we find out what we're made of.

So, if you lose your faith, babe, you can have mine.
And if you're lost, I'm right behind
'cause we walk the same line.
When it's dark, baby, there's a light I'll shine.
And if you're lost, I'm right behind
'cause we walk the same line.

I especially love this line: "And I bet you could tell me how slowly four follows three." Couldn't we all? smile.gif

Can I have your husband? Just kidding. Cool song.

Good thread, Biggirl! Music is so important to me -- it's at the top of my list of "Things to Do to Make Me Feel Better"!

Joliejacq -- what a sweet husband you have! Those lyrics are beautiful, and I can imagine how they must have helped melt that depression away.

When I get depressed or anxious, I listen to Enya. Her music is so soothing and beautiful, it has a calming effect on me almost as good as Ativan! I also love Neil Young, especially his music in the last few years; and the album, Harvest Moon, never fails to perk me up. Another group I love is Enigma, a new age kind of music that is so beautiful. Hmmm.... I could go on and on! smile.gif

I'm really partial to Sarah McLachlan when I'm stressed. Her stuff is great!

When I'm feeling good, it's Evanescence that's cranked in my car and I sing all the way home! laugh.gif

My all time favorite song is Smooth by Santana and Rob Thomas. My kids think I have lost my mind. They like 50's, 60's and 70's music.

biggrin.gif My all-time favorite artist is Elton John and I guess I will love him forever. The songs, "Rocket Man", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and "Levon" are three of a list that goes on and on and on. I also love Melissa Ethridge, Alanis Morrissette, Wynonna, and Brooks & Dunn. Have you heard the new one by Brooks & Dunn called "I Believe?" That is a song that definitely makes me feel wonderful about my life and my faith in God.

Since I am an American Idol fan, I am also a great fan of Kelly Clarkson - the first American Idol. I must also tell you that I love Clay Aiken!

As I sit here writing this post, I am thinking of many, many other artists and songs I love - but I will only name one other artist and that is Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul. She is timeless.

Love to all - Belinda

My dear sweet daughter made me some cd's with whales sounds and the ocean and a thunder storm and little frogs peeping.
I know their not songs but they help so much!

Neil Diamond's If There Were No Dreams has to be my all time 'soothing' song. Not sure why, but it always has been.

Do you girls that have daughters want to cry? Listen to Jamie O'Neal's new song: Somebody's Hero. When I was in Florida visiting my daughter, she had me listen to it. I cried my eyes out! It's simply beautiful and so true. These are just PART of the lyrics:
She's somebody's hero
A hero to her mother in a rockin' chair
She runs a brush through her silver hair
The envy of the nursing home
She drops by every afternoon
Feeds her mama with a spoon
And that smile lets her know
Her mother's smile lets her know
She's somebody's hero

"This ones for the girls" by Martina McBride usually puts me in an upbeat mood when everything looks so grey, so does "Breathe" by Faith Hill.

There are a lot of songs that make me feel good and smile but the one I'm thinking of now is more or less a song of depression in my opinion and wonder what prompted Mick Jagger to write it....."Mother's Little Helper"...here are the lyrics:

What a drag it is getting old
"Kids are different today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
Mother needs something today to calm her down
And though she's not really ill
There's a little yellow pill
She goes running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And it helps her on her way, gets her through her busy day

"Things are different today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
Cooking fresh food for a husband's just a drag
So she buys an instant cake and she burns her frozen steak
And goes running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And two help her on her way, get her through her busy day

Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old

"Men just aren't the same today"
I hear ev'ry mother say
They just don't appreciate that you get tired
They're so hard to satisfy, You can tranquilize your mind
So go running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And four help you through the night, help to minimize your plight

Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old

"Life's just much too hard today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
The pusuit of happiness just seems a bore
And if you take more of those, you will get an overdose
No more running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
They just helped you on your way, through your busy dying day

Do those words not sound like a woman in the throes of depression???? Kinda an odd topic for a young rock and roll band but maybe Mick was watching his mother (who lived until her 90's so she would have been in her 40's when this was out) go through it....just a thought dry.gif dry.gif dry.gif

That was my first thought too, momz.

Could very well have been his mom or another family member he was watching go through it.

Actually, I have to correct my comment on this song; I meant in the throes menopause not depression although, for me they seem to walk hand in hand

This is a great topic-

momz-

Mother's Little Helper - Yes that has taken on real meaning lately.
I'm sure it refers to valium or xanax. Probably valium back then-
Yes, I bet Mick was "inspired" by the legions of menopausal women
who were given it for relief. Now I relate, with my own little "helpers" in my purse. The more things change.

CareBear & Kleeo - Bon Jovi lives in my town. (Meant to tell you that CareBear) I'm not a Jersey girl by birth so neither he nor Springsteen "float my boat" the way they do all many of my husband's relatives. I've never seen him, but there are routine sightings all the time of both he and Springsteen. Everyone here is "too cool" to make a stink about it.

Paul Simon's American Tune has taken on meaning for me lately as I have been so depressed. This song somehow makes me even more depressed, but the lyrics stay with me. The part about the Statue of Liberty and "we've lived so well, so long" somehow
evoke September 11th for me.

The lyric "you can't be forever blessed ," also evoke how I feel about peri misery - I think is this the end of feeling well forever?

Paul Simon may have sung it at the TV tribute for 911 too.
These are the lyrics if you anyone is interested.

Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
But I'm all right, I'm all right
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home

And I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
or driven to its knees
But it's all right, it's all right
We’ve lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the road
we're traveling on
I wonder what went wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what went wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
And I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age's most uncertain hour
and sing an American tune
But it's all right, it's all right
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest

P.S. Great songwriters, like Paul Simon and Bob Dylan understood the value of vague lyrics - we can read into them anything we are going through in our lives.
