I've been getting headaches for a months now. I attributed it to seasonal allergies. I get the pollen allerts sent to me via-mail and as soon as the pollens were up, so were my headaches.

I was wondering if any lasdies here get back of the neck pain or ringing in the ears with their headaches. I also have high blood pressure and often check my pressure at home when I feel this pain, because this could also be a sign of severe HBP. Luckily my pressure is only slightly elevated because when this pain starts.

I have never had back of the neck pain before and now for a month I am suffering.

I can't take anything other than Tykenol (which barley works) and Advil (which raises my pressure!)...

Anyone out there like me? What did you do to find relief?

Thanks!

Hi Livetolove, when I get my headaches, they go straight from my eye to the back of the head/neck area. They are lethal! I never had this type of headache before being peri. They s*ck, to say the least. There is no over the counter medications that help my headaches ~ I have to take Fiorinal to knock me out in order for them to go away. It's not fun, but at least it gets rid of the pain.
Sorry to hear you're suffering with these ~ headaches have been my worst menopause symptom to date.

Hi,

I used to get those back-of-the-head and upper-neck aches each and every month for years, on the first 2 days of my period. Then, in peri, there was a phase of a few months where I had them EVERY DAY. I rarely get the headaches now, but do have a stiff neck/upper back almost every morning, and will spend a short while with a hot-water bottle up against that area, before getting up and starting the day.

So many women have mentioned this kind of back-of-the-head headache here on Power-Surge, that it seems there HAS to be a hormonal component to it.

The only thing that took care of them for me is Excedrin Extra-Strength, which is a mix of aspirin, acetominaphin (Tylenol), and caffeine. My understanding is that the caffeine opens constricted blood vessels. This works FAST, usually within 20 minutes. It's a godsend, as plain aspirin, Tylenol, or Advil made NO difference.

Good luck,

JJ

Peri also caused me to get daily back of the head and neck headaches. I tried every pain reliever I could find and like Joliejacq, Excederin Extra-Strength worked well for me too. If they were particularly bad an ice pack on my neck would sometimes help.

Yes, me too. For about 6 weeks my head and neck ached, my ears hurt and the feeling of pressure was so horrible and almost unbearable.
The only thing that seems to help slightly for me is Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day but not everyone can take this I know.
