Full Version: Unusual vaginal discharge

Hi, everyone. I'm wondering if anyone has had this symptom. It's been nearly 2 years since my last period. This morning I discovered a small amount of thick, clear vaginal discharge. It reminded me very much of the type of mucous I sometimes had at midcycle. It smells normal - not like an infection. There's no sign of yellowish color or blood.

I called my doctor and she said she wasn't unduly concerned but because I've had some other abdominal discomfort (which seems related to digestive issues, but you never know, I suppose) she is sending me for an ultrasound tomorrow. I know this is also to put my mind at ease because I got very anxious about the symptom.

Anyone else had this so long after you stopped menstruating?

Angela,

I haven't had this happen, but want to respond to your post.

It sounds like you have a terrific doctor, coming right in to check on what's happening. If she's unconcerned, that's good news! Hope your ultrasound went well.

I don't think it's uncommon for us to have times of discharge... if it were bloody, that would be more cause for concern, perhaps.

Again, hope the ultrasound went well today, and your mind was put at ease.

Thank you for your kind response! I appreciate knowing you were thinking about me.

I had the pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound on Friday. The radiologist said they saw "nothing worrisome" so that seemed good. But I saw my doctor today and we went over the report in detail, and she did see something she wants to check out, which is that my endometrial stripe is thickened, up to 7 mm in places. She's consulting with a gyno oncologist (!) and they may decide an endometrial biopsy would be prudent. I should hear from them tomorrow or Wednesday.

Some doctors don't feel there's any cause for concern with an post meno endo stripe of 9 mm or less, as long as there's no bleeding - and I'm not bleeding so far but my discharge episode last week felt like ovulation...and the ultrasound did note that one ovary had the look of one that was about to pop an egg. So I may find myself having a surprise period soon.

I am of course freaking out EVER so slightly. Well, maybe a little more than that.

I'll post back when I have more info but I do want to say that if anyone postmenopause has an unidentified discharge or bleeding, it's probably a good idea to report it to your doctor.
