Peggy Sue, I have a bottle of Rescue Remedy that I bought a while ago, and like you I have really bad phobias about trying anything. I tried a couple of drops in water one time, and of course started waiting for side effects. It seemed to make me feel a tiny bit calmer, but not noticibly so. I tried the Cherry Plum flower remedy for obsessive thoughts, and I swear it made me feel worse!! I'm sure it takes longer than one try for any of these things to work, but if I feel ANY wierd effects at all, I will blame it on what I just took, and most likely never try it again.

I love my Rescue Remedy!! It is very, very gentle, homeopathic, made from plant essences.
I carry it in my purse, and keep a bottle by the bedside. When we take our dog Norton to the vet's, he gets a squirt while he's sitting there waiting for his turn, shivering with despair.
There's a spray available which I like even better - just spritz it once onto your tongue. It just seems to be grounding...

Me too! Was in the throes of my morning bout this am and all it took was a few drops. i used it the other day on my pulse points like Alice suggested and that worked too. Think I'll get some spray though. I think that would work better.

It follows most of us ladies around. Someone called it brain squirrels - lol

Oh yeah! Linderful called it brain squirrels and DaMomma always called it stinkin' thinkin'! I told my dh both of those this weekend while trying to explain to him what the anxiety is like. Both very appropriate explanations.
I did use the drops on my pulse points but there's so much alcohol I was afraid if anyone smelled me they would wonder what I'd been up to!
It works well just putting about 4 or 5 drops on your tongue. Go ahead, peggy sue. Be brave! It's just flowers!

Seems kind of strange to me that flowers would calm you down but hey, whatever works,I always say!

Has anyone tried any of the other Bach remedies that are specifically for anxiety, fear and panic? They are Aspen, Mimulus and Rock Rose.
Anxiety is THE worst symptom of meno as far as I'm concerned because it effects your whole body, and can be so debilitating. You say that it follows you around Peggy Sue, but I'd say I'm possessed by anxiety. It rules my life . It makes me want to jump out of my skin and I know I never felt like this either until I began going through perimenopause. And the phobias I have developed are absolutely deranged. You're NOT childish Peggy Sue-you're just being bedeviled by your hormones!
JJ, you say you like the spray better than the drops. Does it have any taste, and how long does the grounding effect last?
I just hope and pray that this anxiety will not become a perpetual part of our daily lives even after we have come out on the other side of the pause! Personally speaking, I know that I could not live like this day after day until I die!

Darlene,
The taste of the spray is just like the drops - a little alcohol-y. But not unpleasant!

I use it too, and I'll paranoid about taking medication, (history of bad reactions). I also just started with a drop, >>thought that since it didn't kill me >the next day two etc! I also take ativan when needed, someone I can go weeks without it! I know I could feel better if I would try more medications but for now I'm toooo phobic...

So far, I seem to be managing ok without any meds. I still think the rescue remedy works great for the anxiety. I'd try some of the specific ones that Darlene mentioned but I'd have to order them online as they don't sell them any where around me.
We have a health food store in the area with a very knowledgable woman who works there. I went in to get my lemon balm tea (also great for stress!) yesterday and we talked about the pro-gest cream. She sells a wild yam cream that is about $10. cheaper that she used herself when she was in the worst part of her peri and said it worked really well. So, I bought some! I figure I'll give this a try for a few months and see if it makes any kind of difference. I know some women on here have said that the progesterone took away the anxiety. She told me that she tried the pro-gest after trying the wild yam cream and saw no difference at all so I'll go the less expensive route first.
Here's hoping! I'll let you all know if I see any difference!

Read the Bach centre website (Google Bach flower essence). It explains how it works and how some essences may bring repressed feelings to the surface.
Yes it sounds a load of --------- but it works for me.
You can use it on pets too, apparently.

My sister recommended rescue remedy to me. She used to work as a labor coach and when the women she helped were in transition labor, she would sometimes give them the dosage suggested on the label. She said it helped them a lot in focusing and shortened the labor. Anyway, I've used it a few times but never felt much. When I'm really anxious, kava works for me, or half a .25 mg xanax.
I DID rub it onto my 17 y.o. cat's ears (subcutaneous absorption) when we moved back home to Arizona from North Carolina. 4 days in a car with a yellow lab and a nervous elderly cat--I read at a website that rescue remedy is safer for older cats than giving them tranquilizers and it did calm my cat down. I know for sure it worked for my cat, because one morning I forgot to give it to her, and geez, did she howl till I was able to administer a dose.

Rescue Remedy is one of the safest things you can use. It works on humans and animals but will work better on some individuals than others. We use it all the time on stressed rescue dogs and I have used it a lot on my own dogs with excellent effect. I have doubled the dose, and given it every two hours in extreme cases of stress in animals.
You can take it in water or put some on a small piece of bread although it is more effective dosed straight into the mouth, usually under the tongue. It is highly unlikely to cause any interaction at all with any meds but, as always, it is best to check.
I can't take it because it does have a tiny amount of alcohol in and I am a recovering alcoholic - just that small amount would set me off

yep,thanks for asking!
I think it was starting to work a bit. I had started it just before going to see my gyn and after talking with her,we decided to try low doses of bhrt to see if that would alleviate my smptoms better. So once I started that last week, I stopped using the cream.
It's been a pretty anxious weekend and I'm hoping this is just one of those,it gets worse before it gets better things!
Anyone on bhrt that can give me some insight on this?

Peribelle, I read somewhere on this board that someone had it made up as an aquaeous solution. Your herbalist may help.

mrsb76...sure hope the bhrt works for you.
I'm done with the HRT's...was never able to take birth control gave me migraines. Soon as I stop the migraines stopped also.
I'll be so glad when all this, is over with.
Wishing you well...
