I had a CT scan and it was reported that I had a mildly enlarged uterus and a left ovarian cyst (appears simple) 3 x 1.8 cm. The mild enlargement of uterus is 5.5 cm in AP diameter and 7-8 cm in transverse diameter. From my research, that is NOT very enlarged, if at all. However, I have EXTREME pelvic pain. Like there is a boulder in my bladder and it's going to burst any minute. Could this be from fibroids? From what I read on these boards, no one with these fibroids, even huge ones, seems to say they had any pain or discomfort! What else could this be? I have a pelvic ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday but I seriously don't know if I can hold out until then!

Onbrake, I've always heard that most fibroids are not painful; I had a couple before I was pregnant with my son (he's 10), and I wouldn't have known it if they hadn't shown up in a sonogram. I think I would call my doctor and ask about it, if only for peace of mind...it might make the waiting easier. Take care, IrishLass

Onbrake I do have pain from a fibroid. A constant crampy pressure bloated feeling dry.gif And at times have experienced extreme pain. My Dr seems to think its from the fibroid pushing on bladder and/or bowel. Its at its worst usually just before I am expecting a period. Not sure how large your fibroid is and if it could be doing the same thing. My fibroid is the size of a grapefruit and my uterus is enlarged to the size of a 14 week pregnancy. Maybe in your case also the ovarian cyst could be ready to rupture? The only thing I have found to help is heat. I have spent many hours laying down with my hot water bottle mellow.gif Check with your Dr if the pain gets worse and good luck with ultrasound! Let us know how it goes.

Now that I am closing in on menopause my fibroids bother me when I am sleeping. They can tug on nerves
and it depends where they are located. I have not had a period for several months and now they really
hurt! Perhaps due to no more blood supply they may be "dying" off. For the most part fibroids don't cause
pain in many women but they can in a few. They can also cause backache and urinary problems.

Hi Cathy and Icedancer,

Fibroids can cause excruiating pain by pressing on other organs, especially the bladder and bowel. My problems have been put down to this being the cause.

Thanks, everyone! I had an abdominal ultrasound and a transvaginal ultrasound yesterday. Of course, the technician can't tell me anything, but she DID state that the cyst is no longer there on the left ovary. So it must have been functional and has already dissolved. So now I'm left with waiting for a report on the uterine enlargement (albeit very minor). I'm not bleeding as heavily or in as much pain as last month at ALL. I was dreading this month because I thought it was going to be even worse, but it's actually much better. So I'll wait for the results and see if they see fibroids or what's going on with the uterus. It's been a process of elimination for sure!
