HI,

Just wanted to share some good news. biggrin.gif

I was having trouble with lower abdominal gas, cramping and at the urging of my daughter I had it checked out to make sure it wasn't anthing serious.

I had a pelvic exam and a transvaginal ultrasound (now there's a good time) and everything is within normal limits. I know ovarian cancer is difficult to detect but for now I'm good.

The red rice yeast supplement I was taking to lower cholesterol was the blame, darn but had brought my blood levels down pretty good too.

Pat, I don't know if we've discussed this before, but red yeast rice is a statin and although herbal, still should be monitored. I'd be really careful with it.

P.S. I'm glad that's all it was! That was great news!

Congratulations on good check up. I just wanted to warm on red yeast extract, I bought it for DH and it brought it CHO down, so I was very happy until I've learned that it is actually is ....a statin, only not patented as a drug but with the same mechanism of action.

I'm so glad everything turned out alright for you. I'm sure it must be a big relief!

Hi guys: I know this is off-topic sort of, but the red-yeast-statin connection caught my eye. I've been taking Policosanol...is that supposed to be a statin too?

Thank you everyone for the congrats, I know some women are not so fortunate.

I am not taking the Red Rice Yeast anymore and yes I know about the "statin" effects but I may need to go on prescription meds if the cholesterol goes up again. I know there has been a lot said about Lipitor but that is one of the few cholesterol meds that do not cause gas.

Yes, I would like to know about the Policosanol also, I bought some but stopped not knowing what was causing the gas.

I just saw a TV ad for One A Day Multivitamins with Policosanol so it can't be bad if they are adding it to vitamins, I just wonder how effective it is without the Red Rice Yeast formula?

You Go Girl!!!!

Great news, Ovarian cancer is the "Bad One" (as my Mom said when she was diagnosed.)
Glad to hear you are clear.
