There are lots of best books on the The Power Surge Reading List smile.gif

Because the most difficult peri symptoms for me have been anxiety/depression, the best book I've encountered is Claire Weeke's "Hope and Help for Your Nerves."

This book "saved" me on numerous occasions, when I was just hanging on by a thread...

There are so many good books out there, but one that stands at the top of my list for calming my mind is "Where Ever You Go, There You Are", by Jon Kabat-Zinn. It has truly helped me enjoy life more. I may have digressed here because it's not a book about peri-menopause, but it has helped me with anxiety.

If you want to know about a book, a great place to go is Amazon's website because there are many reviews of the book you can read, helping you to decide if this is what you're looking for or not.

MY favorite book so far is, Susan Weed (New Menopause Years, The Wise Woman Ways)...

My suggestions..or my 2 favorites are
1) What your doctor may not tell you about pre-menopause by Dr. John Lee..it's great and gives you all kinds of recommendations on all kinds of issues

2) From Panic to Power (because like someone said above) the anxiety was the thing that was really wearing me out by Lucinda Bassett really made me feel better just after reading the first chapter! smile.gif

Liveto Love:

I can only give you my WORST book. Or maybe it's the book you should read if you need to get angry and vent: Christine Nothrup's The Wisdom of Menopause. Her theory is that those of us with troubles during this time are dealing with unresolved stuff and that as soon as we fix those things we'll be in perfect health again. Arghh!!!!!!

Still Ticked Off,

Otter,
I just read this and had to laugh. I have this book too. My fav book is by Dr. Vleit...Screaming to be heard. I recently took out the book you talk of and couldn't beleive what I was reading. It was so different from Dr. Vleits book. So..I have to agree with you...I'm sticking with Dr. Vleit.

The above list took years for me to compile. It includes all the books (Weekes, Northrup, Vliet, Weed) mentioned in this thread and hundreds of others.

I also have a short list at Power Surge's Favorite Books.

I have read 2 of the books that Dearest recommends,"The Change Before the Change" by Laura Corio and "Midlife Mamas on the Moon" by Sunny Hersh.

The first was a really informative book about peri-menopause. She has lots of great suggestions and I would just like to say I wish I lived closer because I would love for this woman to be my doctor! smile.gif

Midlife Mamas was really funny! It's nice to garner at least a little humor from all of this and Sunny Hersh really does that. I've recommended this book to a few people.

I'd like to mention another book that I have not seen mentioned at all. I got it out of the library this week and it has a lot of great info in it. The book is "The Only Menopause Guide You'll Ever Need" by Michele Moore,M.D.

She is a traditional doctor who has also done a lot of studying about alternative remedies. She talks about the symptoms of peri and menopause (also post) and has ideas for treating them all! She gives ideas of what works, traditional, herbals and also homeopathic.

She gives a chart for keeping track of symptoms to be able to discuss with your own doctor.

Definitely a good read if you're looking for something else to add to your library!

if it hasn't been mentioned already-

a funny book : The Hot Flash Club by Nancy Thayer
