Last week, day 18 of my cycle, I started to spot on and off for four days - no period. Last Friday went to my ob for my annual exam and pap and she said it could be estrogen surges that could possibly cause breakthrough bleeding but if I do not get my period this week I have to call her. Also, she felt probably hopefully a cyst on my right ovary but again that could be from ovulation the week before but I still have to go for an ultrasound next week Has anyone had a similar situation ? Worried

Hi cat-e!

I've been doing the same thing for the last couple of months. I went off the pill in Oct. because I was getting nothing but spotting and went for another 3 months that way. Then in Jan I got a regular period,on time and then some heavy spotting about 2 weeks later. Then in Feb. got my period on time and 2 weeks later, another few days of spotting.

With all the other symptoms I'm getting, I have no doubt it's just my hormones. I have an appt. with my gyn in March so we'll see what she says but I'm not stressing over it.

Don't worry, like your doctor said,it's probably just hormones doing fun things! rolleyes.gif

Cat-e,

I had the same fears when I began spotting between periods. For years we are told to beware of any "unusual" bleeding, but no one tells us it can be COMPLETELY COMMON in perimenopause!!!

My doctor was wonderful - he explained how hormone levels rise and fall, so the uterine lining begins to build, but then a hormone drop occurs which occurs it to begin to shed, and then it builds, and sheds, etc. etc. Toward the end, when I was only having "true" periods every few months, I was spotting constantly! It was necessary to carry protection everywhere...

It's always wise to get breakthrough bleeding checked out (and I had ultrasounds, etc., all fine), but I want to comfort you that this may be completely normal!

Thanks joliejaq for the information. I'm sure it is exactly what you said fluctuations of the hormones. Tomorrow I go for an ultrasound just to be sure. One can get more info. and support from this forum than any doctor. Cat-E

just wanted to let everyone know that I got my ultrasound and pap test results and that everything is normal. I will never get myself CRAZY again from all this perio. nonsense - just that the doc had me worried because she felt something on my ovary at the same time I was spotting but I guess it is all hormonal fluctuations. Thanks for everyone's support. CAT-E

unsure.gif Hi, everyone!

This is my first time at this! Whew! I thought I was the only person going through this!

I've had irregular periods for the past year. For the past past year, I've had the heaviest periods ever. My periods once were regular, now I don't know when they will start. And the period is bright red! Some months, I have two periods. This month, my period has not come at all! I've been stressing for the past two weeks.

Oh, I forgot. I just turned 47 years old, and one week after my birthday, I was given the gift of the worst hot flashes ever. They're so bad, I can't wear turtlenecks anymore! I just purchased a desk fan for my office. My financee isn't sure what to think.

I'm not sure what to think about my missing period! I'm besides myself. Is this perimenopause?!

Hi maemae!

It sure sounds like peri to me. Mine have been doing the same thing for a while now. If you're sure you're not pregnant, I think you can safely assume that it's peri!

Welcome to power-surge! You're in good company here! biggrin.gif
