I have been getting small spikes of blood pressure. I know it is happening because I get a small headache at the base of my neck and pressure throughout. It comes out of nowhere and the numbers have been as high as 150/100.

These spikes come out of nowhere, I panic a bit so I take .025mg of Xanax and the numbers go back down to normal within 15 minutes. Rather quickly.

Could my fluctuating hormones cause this rush? Anyone out there like me?

I get this also but mine is not only associated with Peri but Hypothroidism. I have also noticed that right before my period blood pressure goes up.

Yes...at one time mine was 214/161 it was caught on the monitor... in the ambulance... going to the ER.
Anxiety just fuels blood pressure. Take blood pressure med's now...that help to keep it in control, along with diet and exercise. Your talking hormones that control every organ of your body.
It still continued to be high after taking the med.'s everyday.
I finally got so tired of the anxiety controlling me, that I just developed a no care attitude, and handed it over to a higher power. What you gonna do?? I feel we don't leave this earth until the man upstairs says so anyways...so why stress?
The more I worried the higher the pressure went...finally had to tell myself (over and over by the way) that it wasn't going to control me. Now the anxiety is pretty much non-existant.

Yep

jsully...

Did they discover your hypothroidism, since being in peri or before?
My mom, brother and two daughters have thyroid problems. They do checks occasonially on me and keep saying Nah...no thyroid problems. But, I have so many of the symptoms I wonder.
How could it skip me and hit all around? Makes no sense.
Last June I dropped 30 pounds, since then I have gained it all back and headed for more. blink.gif
No amount of exercise seems to be helping.
Just wondering...

I was diagnosed with Hypo about 15 years ago but has given me more fits since I started in peri-meno. My natural doctor put me on Armour Thyroid but I am afraid that I am allergic to it. So I may go back to Atrium Thryoid 130 that I took for year. Will need to up the amount taken I guess.

I've read that 1 T. Olive Oil daily helps to manage blood pressure... Please try it... wink.gif

My sister and I both are on bp medication since approaching perimenopause.

Prior to peri my bp was usually very low. I think my bp becomes elevated when my hormones drop lower. For instanced this pass month I started back having chills, sore breast and a few other symptoms that I've not had in a long time. My bp has been slightly higher because of these changes. I

've also not exercised like I should the last couple of weeks so that also affects my blood pressure. Prior to going through all of this I had no idea that hormones could affect every thing in my body from the top of my head to the sole of my feet. That is why I get a bit upset when I hear only about hot flashes when I hear the word menopause. I did not even know about perimenopause until I did some research on my own. My previous ob/gyn did not tell me about peri. let alone the many symptoms associated with menopause besides "hot flashes".

It truly has been aggravating... not having one doctor take the time to explain or even help you to understand menopause. They just want to push the HRT and get you out of the office pronto. Remember the first time I went with menopause symptoms, I was bleeding so bad I could hardly walk for the blood clots...anxiety was so bad I wanted to stand facing the corner in the waiting room. I get in there and he says you want something to make your periods disapear?
Not one word about what was happening, or what I could expect to happen. I was totally stupid, and uneducated about meno...thought it was a few hot flashes...and "that's all folks". unsure.gif
Little wonder why these doctor's who are menopause specalist are in demand... When you think about it... all they would have to do is educate, and show some compassion.
To know then...what I know now. I do make this promise...my daughters will know better. I'm leaving a journal behind, just in case I'm not around. Right now...they aren't into listening.

Geez..I'm knocking on wood, all these symptoms don't come back around...like I've heard some of the women here mention.

Yep

I'll try the olive oil...thanks!
