I love this site! This is my first post. I haven't seen this subject discussed yet. I have been noticing that my nose has started to run frequently. I've never had this problem before. I seldom have colds anymore and I don't have allergy problems. My nose just starts running for no reason. Does anyone else have this problem?

Welcome Connie, to Powersure! smile.gif

I have had sinus issues that I feel are related to declining/changing hormones.
In the last year I have been skipping periods and that is when I have noticed a
runny nose. I did not have this before. I feel it is due to hormones. This happened
to my older sister as well. I am not so lucky, I have also had a run of colds/flu
but the runny nose is a separate problem. Like you say it runs for no reason,
just out of the blue. I don't think a lot women in peri have this but we
are all unique and while some have severe hot flashes another has dizziness.

I would like to know too, does anyone have a runny nose without having a cold
or allergy? There is also a condition called Non Allergic Rhinitis-tends to
happen in people during mid life.

Hi Girls~~I have had the runny nose..allergy type symptoms since I started into peri! Never had allergies till this peri-nonsense began..must be hormone related. I blame everything on them biggrin.gif

Hi Girls,

My whole journey through peri/meno started with repeated sinus infections. I had never had allergies or sinus problems until that time. Now I have constant problems with runny or stuffy nose, plugged sinuses, sinus headaches, etc. I have read that sinus problems is connected with the change in our hormones. Just one more thing to chalk up to peri. Whenever I feel something I have never felt before - like Finola, blame it on peri.

I have read that hormone imbalance can cause allergies and/or make them worse. I have experienced that first hand.

Hi ladies,
I too have had constant nasal drip, watery eyes and ringing ears! I went to the doc for the ringing ears to see if it was an infection. He said they weren't infected and sent me home with Zrytec, nasal spray and a scrip for Antibiotics if my ears became painful. I haven't taken any of this stuff as I'm not much of a pill taker. I was never one to have any of these problems before either...have any of you tried any over the counter meds? I've been afraid because they can cause rapid heart eat/high blood pressure?
Hope you all feel some relief soon!

Hi Jo,

I have also had ringing in my ears since peri set in. I went to the the ENT to be checked for an infection but everything was clear. He suggested that I try taking 120 mg of gingko biloba for the ringing. He said it is the only thing that has actually given some people relief. I have been on it ever since and I must say that it definitely lessens the ringing. It has not taken it completely away but it is also not as bothersome as it was before. You might consider trying it. If it doesn't do anything at least you haven't spent a fortune on doctor's visits and medications.

Hi everyone, I've had a lot of sinus problems too since I started perimenopause. I have read in the PS library that hormones can affect sinuses. Also I've read elsewhere that the air quality everywhere has gotten so bad that there are many more cases of allergies and sinus problems in people of all ages. I suppose we don't stand a chance, eh? sad.gif

Jo, I'm concerned about OTC decongestants too because of blood pressure. Have you heard of nasal irrigation? If you haven't tried it, it may sound gross, but it's great. I bought a "Neti pot" (brand name) at the health food store -- it's a ceramic pot with a long spout. You use warm water and salt, position the spout to a nostril and pour the water through (it drains through and out the other nostril). I love my Neti pot -- it feels so good and really helps my sinuses stay clear.

MaeFlower, thanks for the tip on Gingko Biloba - my husband has ringing in his ears. I'll mention it to him; I'm sure he'll want to give it a try.
