Since June of 2004, I have been trying to lower my cholesterol, which was at 238 at the time. My doc wanted me to start on cholesterol meds, but I wanted to try everything I could naturally first.

First thing I did was go on a super-low-fat diet. For three months, I was really really conscientious about everything that went into my mouth. I made separate meals for myself and my family. I turned down every bit of junk food that appeared at work. After three months of this, I went back to the doc confident that I would see results. My cholesterol had gone down...by three points. It was down to 235 from 238. I almost cried. The only good thing was that my bad cholesterol had gone down and the good had gone up and my triglycerides had gone down drastically.

Next I tried the plant sterols, using Cholest-Off. After six weeks (the time it says it takes to see results), my cholesterol was 236, up a point.

I added exercise, doing aerobics twice a week. No change.

After all this frustration, I was almost ready to give in to the doc's attempt to start me on meds, but then a friend told me that Revival Soy had lowered her cholesterol. I decided to give that a try.

I had a cholesterol test on November 2, then I started on the Revival that day. It said to give it three months for results. So on February 2 (yes, I am obsessive/compulsive, why do you ask? tongue.gif ), I went back for another test. I got the results yesterday:

Triglycerides went from 115 to 63
Cholesterol went from 248 to 229
HDL (good cholesterol) went from 46 to 54
LDL (bad cholesterol) went from 179 to 162

Not a drastic result, but still a positive one! An actual improvement for the first time!

So despite studies that had me doubting the effectiveness of soy protein, my own personal results show that it did have a positive effect on my lipid profile.

Just wanted to share with everyone!

wolfgirl,
Hello, that is great to hear! I've been thinking about trying it for myself and my husband (who has high cholesterol and has been taking Alfalfa) You may have made a believer out of me!
Keep up the good work!
Take care, Jo

I had my Cholesterol tested in November, the results were somewhat HIGH, the bad numbers were Total Cholesterol 234, LDL 164.

This was about the same time that I started taking the Bioidentical hormones, so for the next two months, I took my meds, upped my soymilk, flax and tried to eat more salads, fruits etc......

BTW, I don't exercise and I do drink coffee.

I had all retested, my results were Total Cholestrol 198, LDL 134

My doc said many women in peri/meno get sudden increases in their Cholesterol, and when they take BHRT, these numbers for some women go down, luckly I was in that boat for now.
