I went to my doctor today for a follow-up after my endometrial ablation. Everything is great. I also told her that i tend to get yeast infections before my periods and that I ran out of Diflucan. She said she would prescribe me some more.

Anyways, I asked her if maybe the yeast infections would go away after the ablation b/c I won't be bleeding as much, and she said "No, unfortunately it's hormonal."
She is the very first doctor who has EVER confirmed that yeast infections could be caused by hormones! I have had so many tests done by other doctors (HIV, fasting blood test to test for diabetes, etc.) and she says "no, it's hormonal." I've asked other doctors if it could be hormonal and they said no!

Yay for my doctor! I'm so happy b/c I knew it was hormonal. I just wish there was a way to make them stop! I dose up on acidophilus and eat yogurt and it seems to help. I also use the topical cream (can't think of the name of it) that comes with the OTC medicine for yeast infections and it helps.

Anyways, just thought some people might find this interesting! I sure did!

Jilies:
I was getting yeast infections during last threemestr of both my pregnancies, and it returned a bout 5 years ago as I started perimenopause. One ONGYN told me back then that hormonal imbalance estrogen/progesteron ration causes yeast overgrowth, usually estrogen keeps pH and yeast in check. I do have it usually a week or 10 days before my period when estrogen is lower and progesteron is high. Even my 23 yo daughter has them on and off, so it's sort of normal. Since I added Biest, it stopped, may be just a coincidence.

I have been reading that eating cinnamon on a daily basis will help prevent yeast infections(and will also clear up a current one).....anyone try this?

Moonlight,
I have not heard about a connection between cinnamon and yeast infections. However, I read an article that said it is now believed that cinnamon can control sugar levels for diabetics. An experiment was being conducted regarding sugar levels whereby subjects were tested after eating apple pies. Some apple pies had cinnamon and others did not. Sugar levels were not high in those subjects who had eaten the apple pies with cinnamon, but were high in those subject who ate pies not containing cinnamon. Food for thought -- no pun intended.

Since I've been suffering with a discharge since September, had various tests, the first two which said it was bacterial and the last said it was a weird candida, not albicans, and I still have it after treatment, I went to the health food store and asked for something. They said pau d'arco and oregano was good for yeast infections. I chose the latter, feeling anything that was on a pizza must be okay. I've been taking the oregano supplements for a few days and see no difference. I'm pretty frustrated at this point, but think it might be caused by the Vagifem I'm using, which I understand turns to a gel inside that sticks to the sides of the vagina. It could be that leaking out or it could be that the extra estrogen is causing the vagina to produce more discharge.

Anyhow, the reason you are more prone to infections in the nether region is because the vaginal walls thin out and become a good culture to grow all of this wonderful stuff. The lower estrogen levels change the PH balance too, which aggravates the situation. Oh, the joys of aging!

I used to suffer from yeast infections CHRONICALLY. I would get them right after my period and I would insert a boric acid capsule (I would have them made up at the pharmacy). It was much easier than the suppositories and it would neutralize the excess alkaline environment.

The infections completely stopped about 6 months ago. Very strange and I do not know why - but my night sweats have increased and so I do believe it is hormonal. Its like one thing gets better and then you get whacked with an onslaught of other symptoms.
