Am I glad I found this site. It has answered so many questions. Does anyone else feel 'hungover' when they wake? I feel like I have had one too many the night before, I wish!! Heavy head, feel nauseous and daren't turn over too quickly incase it all starts spinning! It seems to pass once I have been up for about an hour, has put an end to lie-ins at the weekend!
I to have suffered with lightheadedness and spells of dizziness on and off for the last two years, this seems worse 7 days after a period has started and leaves me feeling 'uneasy' for a couple of days.
Has anyone found any remedies to ease or get rid of the lightheadedness?

Orion, I discovered the reason for my Husband's hangovers about 8 to 10 months ago. He used to get wicked ones, and he does not drink. Not a Drop in 18 years. It seemed also that the more water he drank, the worse it got. After trying all kinds of things, I had a lightbulb moment. Dehydration. Despite the fact that he was drinking so much water, he was not retaining it. What helps you retain your water you ask? Electrolites. I started buying Electrolite balanced sports drinks for him when he went through a hangover period. They helped alot. Next, I added vitamin b-12 drops which are swished around in the mouth and under the tongue for about 90 seconds. Guess What ? Hangovers Gone ! When one does start to rear it's ugly head, we know what to do.

Orion,
May depend on what the dizzyness is coming from, IF it's just hormonal, then probably you'll need some hormonal help. It could be coming from low blood sugar, so maybe you should eat something as soon as possible, or you may have a slight case of "vertigo". I experienced vertigo a few years back, and I had it for 18 months, yuck! I took a medication called Antivert, which helped that sea sick feeling.
For me, during this peri phase, I was feeling like "lead" in the am, never rested, always tired.
Please read, search and try things to see what helps.
Take care,
Jules

Wow! This is usually how I describe my symptoms to others who can't imagine what's wrong with me. I say, "I just feel hungover!" - and yes, especially in the morning. I really thought I was pregnant for a while because the feeling is also similar to that. Now I have been feeling this way (general crappiness) for about 4 months and I'm really sick of it. Looks like I have a long way to go though, I'm only 34!
I realize hormones may help me but, I am actually on low dose BCP's now so... not sure what else I can do. I also have the internal shaking and buzzing a lot. I have had lots of tests to rule things out. This is no fun, but I'm very glad for this site! Helps ease my anxiety and get me through the rough spots to know others are going through it and survivng!

Oh Girls.....It's awful to go thru so many strange and vague problems, and doctors so much of the time, just don't know. Leaves us feeling so high and dry!!!!
Yes we are ALL going thru these types of things, and of course medical help is advised, but when all is NORMAL, we must endure the passage of time, very difficult. I guess I'm LEARNING to NOT freak out so much!!!

I can relate to the hangover! This is a perfect description, and I never thought of likening it to a hangover, but it's true. Lightheaded, nauseated, TIRED, and sort of depressed. And I don't drink at all! I had to really do some self-talk just to get out of bed and get on with the day. It was perimeno for me, and the nausea was so bad some mornings that (although I'm definitely a breakfast-eater) I didn't even want to eat anything.
It went away--I'm over three years postmeno now. Can't remember the last time I had a meno hangover. Even the insomnia went away, and I never thought that would end!
I don't know of any solutions for the lightheadedness, which sometimes I still get for a couple of days. I have learned to ignore it, because there is no medical reason (for me) other than meno. Be sure to get yourself checked medically to rule out any other reason, and if there is none, just try to ignore it. I know it is annoying, feeling like you aren't connected to the floor sometimes. If I'm driving, I just focus on the road and try listening to the radio to get my mind off of it.
Hang in there--it does end!

Just Bumping this forward. You might find that your hangovers are due to an electrolyte imbalance. Try the Sports drinks. Or you could try the Electrolyte beverages for babies. I think it's Pedia Lyte?.

thanks for all the replies, really helpful. Hadn't thought about dehydration as drink loads of water during the day, so will try electrolytes and see wot happens.

Hi Orion,
I have the same thing as you, fun isn't it

I always thought of it as felling like I was coming down with cold every damn morning, then it would be gone. But I like the hangover thing better!!
I can say that for me it has nothing to do with dehydration, I drink about a gallon of water a day. I have found that magnesium has helped me, I still get the feeling but it is not as intense
This is one crazy damn ride and I am ready for my old self to return

I am 40, but think this all started about 38 or 39.
Keep posting it has helped be so very much, I think this site has saved me from the funny farm
