Hello everyone---

Thanks for all who posted.

My question I have for all of you is---which equiptment is better for weight loss---

the treadmill or a stationary bike.

Anyone have any luck with Richard Simmons videos?

The weight loss places in town would prby be better but they all want a yrs commitment n your credit card number.

I don't want to commit to them that long---wish they would have like a 3 or 6 months to see if it would be something I would do.

Thanks------

THe answer to your question is....
(drumroll)
whatever type of equipment you will use the most!
If you don't like walking or perhaps find it boring, you won't be happy with a treatmill. Dittos on the bike...
I found that if you like to watch tv while doing this stuff, the treatmill (at least mine was ) was quieter...but you could probably read while biking.
Hey heres a thought...set your equipment in front of the computer screen and read power surge posts while you exercise...lol!!!
You have to find something you will do faithfully....
good luck!

I started using my treadmill about 3.5 years ago. I wore my first one out and had to buy another one. I love mine and try to use it 4 times a week. It is convienent for me to just exercise at home rather than going to a gym. It has worked very well for me. I don't know if it is better than a stationary bike but this is what I like to use.

I have a treadmill at home and I love it! I can just hop off the bed and right onto my TM. I also watch tv or listen to my music while walking.

As for a stationary bike, I used to work out on one when I was a member of a gym and it really shaped my legs. It was also imho, harder to do, especially if you set the resistance high. Doing low resistance made me feel like I wasn't doing anything.

I have lower back issues, so for me a stationary recumbent bike is best. Treadmills and stair steppers usually result in a backache for me! sad.gif But I heartily agree with JuneBerry, that the best equipment is the one you'll actually USE! I paid a small fortune for the top-of-the-line Nordic Track about ten years ago, almost killed my crazy self trying to use it (it zigged and I zagged!), and it ended up making a great clothes rack until I finally gave it to the church for a charity auction. Since I'd had good luck at the gym with the recumbent bike, I decided to get one of those, and I've been pleased with it. But I have friends with treadmills, crosstrainers, etc.--it's pretty much a matter of taste!! Good luck!!

I also have a recumbent bike and prefer it to the treadmill (I also have a treadmill). The treadmill bothers my knee and lower back, but my family enjoys jogging on the treadmill. It's all about finding what works for you and I've found the recumbent bike to be the best piece of equipment for me at this time. I'd also like to get something to work my legs, inner thigh, and outer thighs...those problem areas that need more than the bike. Oh, we are all going to regain our girlish figures in no time smile.gif.
