I want to start taking acidophilus but first I want to know if it causes any gas or gurgling (or other tummy sounds) when you first start on it. I have a meeting to go to Monday afternoon and I don't want to have any embarrasing noises coming from me! Hope someone can answer this before Monday noon. Thanks gals!

Hi I luvtolaff,

Both my son and myself have taken acidophilus for many yrs and we both have not had a problem with gas.Thats not to say it doesn't happen..i know some people that have slight gurgling the first week of taking it.

If in doubt..it might be a good idea to wait until after your meeting Monday wink.gif

Good luck, hope all is well smile.gif

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I will wait until after the meeting. I guess it doesn't matter if I take it in the morning or afternoon.

che che, I waited til Monday evening to take the acidophilus and I was fine. I haven't experienced any gas/'noises' or anything. I was wondering--does it matter when you take it? Morning? Night? I take so many vitamins in the a.m., is it o.k. to take it at night?
che che
Hi ILuvtolaff,

Glad to hear that you had no gassy biggrin.gif reaction to the Acidophilus

Sure, you can take it at night We've taken it at all different times...and no problem.

I had read somewhere that acidophilus helps with acne so this has been helpful to my son as well, hes 17!... Its all around good stuff wink.gif

Take care,
Lynda

Geez;

Acidophulis; sounds like a flower. You know, like acidanthera {Gladiolus}.

I have Never heard of it until now, except as a type of Bacteria, but I hope it does what it's supposed to do for you, and do it without too much gurgling in the tummy and not too much gas out your a**.laugh.gif laugh.gif

Hey che che! How long does it take to notice a difference in bowel habits? I'm taking it mainly due to IBS problems. It's been a week and 1/2 and I've noticed no changes yet.

Hi Iluvtolaff,

How are you?.... 2 questions. Dose the acidophilus you've purchased have live or "Active" cultures in it,thats important. Also what dosage are you taking...you might have to up the dosage.

With acidophilus, though you need to increase slowly so you don't upset the Ole intestines wink.gif

You know, i would give it 2 wks , you should notice a gradual improvement.I think with the acidophilus, your intestines need to get used to the change in bactieria....lovely huh....Its not a drastic change immediately its more of a gradual improvement.

Let me know how it goes...no pun intended tongue.gif

I hope this works for you...oh make sure you keep it in the fridge

Hugs,
Lynda

Hmmm--I THOUGHT I was taking acidophilus but after reading the package, I find out it's not! It's called Digestive Advantage IBS and it contains Lactobacillus. There are no mgs. stated either. OK. teach me, please---how many mg. should be taken (I'm very tiny, don't want to overdo) and why should it be refrigerated? You've been so helpful! Thank you che che!

Wow! Thank you for going to all that trouble but I was asking you about the acidophilus not the IBS stuff. You seem to be an expert on acidophilus so I thought you'd maybe know alot about it. laugh.gif

I'm confused??

I thought you were asking about how many Mgs you should take after realizing you were looking at a different product other than just plain acidophillis.

ahhhhhhhh Communication breakdown (The Stones) hee hee, anyway, concerning the acidophillus,I'm not an expert, mine has always had a "recommended"dosage,so I dont have an answer sad.gif

OK heres where it gets confusing all acidophilis products have different amounts of active cultures so therefore the dosage varies.

My suggestion...call a health food store or look it up on the net smile.gif Just to be on the safe side.

Good luck,
Hugs,
Lynda
