Sometimes after a meal ( not necessarily a heavy one) my heart starts beating faster and I'm so aware of the pounding! As soon as it starts, I get nervous which only makes me feel worse. Even after the heart slows down, I still feel very conscious of it pounding and it feels like my stomach is fluttering. I was diagnosed a year ago with benign PVC's but everything else checked out fine. Could this be related to the whole perimenopause thing? I'm tired of always feeling anxious - one time I'll eat and be fine and the next...my whole body flips out! Any explanations for this? Thanks

I've done a lot of reading about this, and a racing heart after meals is often associated with food allergy. That is one way to test for food allergy, to take one's pulse after eating a certain food to see if the pulse rate is high. I'll try to find more info for you on the internet...I'll post it as I find it... smile.gif

If you go to Google and type in "Pulse Test food allergy" you will get a lot of information about this.

I just got home from the Emergency Room 1 hour ago with the exact same thing. They did all kinds of heart tests and I was told that people that have reflux have this problem. I do have reflux from time to time. I am now taking Prevacid again. I knew I should have never went off of this stuff. They gave me Nexium also to try when my Prevacid runs out.

4 hours in the emergency room told me that:

pain between shoulder blades and in shoulder blades after eating
mid chest pain

All a part of reflux.

Yes. I get this often. As soon as I finish eating some meals, (not ALL of the time but frequently) I get what feels like a VERY fast racing heart rate. It has been determined that this is from my LPR and acid reflux. What I will do when it gets terrible, is drink a glass of cold water or sip on some ginger ale - 9 times out of 10 it will cure it. Either that, or worst case scenario I will take a dose of Gaviscon or Maalox. It was frightening the first few times it happened, but it has happened SO many times now I just expect it and deal with it.
This is my experience!

Are you sure it's heart racing? I used to get what I thought was a racing heart after eating, and it turned out to be spasming in my esophagus. I was making myself panic about it! ohmy.gif

Thanks for all the replies - I do get acid reflux frequently (I have a hiatal hernia), just never made the connection! When I say my heart races, it 's about 90bpm which is about 15-20 beats above normal. Sometimes it's accompanied with PVC's, sometimes not, but I'm very aware of the pounding! I never thought about this, but my PVC's seem to come more when I'm bending...I wonder if that's also related to the reflux? Anyway, thanks again!

This happens when I eat a large plate of any kinds of noodles. I also read that if one craves a particular food, it usually is an allergy to that food. I crave noodles - a comfort food for me.

Hi,

I get that also at times. Just had it happen the other night after a light dinner. Just a bowl of soup and a frozen veggie pizza slice.

I have thought it was related to the food itself. I remember reading a while back about a dr. who tested people with food allergies by doing a pulse reading after a certain time after ingesting a meal or particular food.

Hi, new here. Just stumbled upon this site doing a search. Anyway, I have been dealing with palps for years now and I have been experiencing the racing heart thing after meals as well. Mostly though it seems to happen after eating out at restaurants. It's kinda weird because after I order my food and I am sitting there waiting, I can almost predict that when I am done eating that this is going to happen. It's like I can feel it coming on almost. I get a somewhat hyper feeling happening inside. Strange I know. Then like I predicted it happens and usually lasts for an hour or two. During this time I feel like I am having trouble breathing sometimes, kinda like hyperventilation. Leading me to wonder if maybe this could more the cause of it than the food itself. Usually belching and a couple of hours relieves the symptoms eventually.

Interesting to read about the pain between and in the shoulder blades, because I have also had this for years. Doctor told me it was reflux after my gallbladder results were negative, but he never told me the pain in my back was associated with reflux. Makes sense now. So many weird things happening, good to know I'm not alone! lol
