Saw my doc today, as I seem to be relapsing with some depression.
She asked where I was hormonally, and said, "A lot of researchers insist there is no link between perimenopause and depression, but my clinical experience sure doesn't agree with that!"
How NICE to get that validation...

Wish there were more doctors who think like that and not attempt to fit us all in a mold of their choosing.

oh my gosh...what a blessing she is....mine, who is young (and I thought pretty up on it) said just the opposite and told me that once I started getting a good night's rest, the depression would ease....yeah....right.

Hi,
My older sister went to a doctor who put her on Blood Pressure Medication, but also stated that this may only be for a short time, just while she is adjusting to Menopause.
He told her that he takes Hormonal medication, and that he gets HOT FLUSHES.... and that men can get Menopause, but that it's not talked about !!.........
is this for real ??
He said to make her life as comfortable and symptom free as she can, as he believes it's quality of life not quantity, and if medication (whatever sort is needed) helps, then why not take it !!
Is this doctor progressive ? or is he being reckless ??........just not quite sure how to take it.......

He's probably just trying to figure out what is going on....
Congrats JJ, we all want one of them!
Blessings!

I saw my newish Dr. the other day and read him my list of peri symptoms. He did not laugh at me or totally dismiss me, like my old doc did. He said he does believe in peri, and that symptoms are highly variable. But he kept saying, "You are kinda young," even though when I told him peri can start as early as 35 he agreed. (I am 40.)
What do these doctors think they are accomplishing by telling us we are too young? Do they think it helps us in some way? Don't they realize that saying we are too young makes us feel like freaks of nature? That it doesn't change our reality or experience at all? That everyone is different? That maybe what they learned in med school is wrong?
If these doctors are so smart, why are they so dumb?

Because if it doesn't show up in blood work or X-rays it is not real. Just like Fibromialgia isn't real. Right Ladies? Ask any woman with Fibromialgia if it's real or not.
Now if you had a Penis that didn't work properly, and even though that doesn't show up in blood work or X-rays, the Doctor would believe him and treat him.

Hey BridgetLee...
I have read that men go through a change called Andropause (I think that's what it's called). I am not sure that is what is happening to my hubby but he has hormonal issues. He takes synthroid for his thyroid. He has hot flashes...even worse than I do. His face breaks a sweat. I only get real get hot and my torso sweats, my face doesn't. He's had some of the anxiety too. Hormones in women and men can wreak havoc but I think it's more pronounced in women. Oh, and his blood pressure goes up and down also.

All I have to say is that they DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE... They have been taught these things in medical school and WE KNOW OTHERWISE. Think about the hormonal changes that women go through with pregnancy and THE WOMEN THAT HAVE KILLED THEIR CHILDREN because of the hormonal imbalances and added affects of ANTIDEPRESSANTS. When our progesterone levels drop, depression is inevitable... Sometimes I feel like I'm never goiong to get through this...
