Even one flutter a day sets me back to being a scared little wimp afraid to move for fear more will come. Last week I had an echocardiagram and 24 hour holter because in the past 2-3 months I've felt "different" flutters from other palpitations I've felt before. My doctor, my family, my therapist, and my cardiologist all say it's anxiety. The "new" flutters started around the same time I started divorce proceedings. They turned into full-blown panic attacks, but I've been on Zoloft for a month or so, and the panic seems to have settled, but I get one or 2 flutters a day and it makes me sooooooo scared! I'm afraid to be alone and I have tons of "what ifs". Sometimes I think I should just admit myself to a mental ward because I can't stand it. I'm 51 and bragged up until a few months ago that I didn't have any menopause symptoms. Now I have more palps, night sweats, day sweats, cold sweats, hot sweats and hot flashes especially after a flutter.
So I was wondering, since I've noticed this....does anyone else get a hot flash after feeling a palpitation? I keep repeating that I'm not alone and the divorce plus all these new symptoms are just coincidental. Let me mention I've had panic disorder with agoraphobia since I'm 11, when puberty started, so I'm fairly sure all this is tied in with hormones.
Thanks for these message boards, they've been helping me tremendously lately, but this is the first post I've made about my problems. Sometimes they just seem so trivial compared to what others are going through, but in the midst of the symptoms, it's all about me and I hate that.

Hi Vickylee,
Yes, I get palps and hot flashes at odd times day and night, sometimes palps will come before the heat, and sometimes, just for a change, I'll get hot and sweaty and then start with the palps. Sometimes they come seperately, there's no pattern.
I also get little chest pains to add to my worries. With tightness in my throat, and heavy feelings in my chest going through to my back. Yes just like a heart attack!
I've was admitted to a cardio ward a few weeks ago and since then I've had a thorough check, ecg, angiogram, 24 hr halter and a treadmill stress test, which was very scary as I thought I would most certainly collapse. BUT hey! I passed the test! My legs gave out before my heart did, so that was a good sign.
I was so pleased to find this site and to realise that I'm not alone, and so many ladies are out there, suffering the same as me, and trying to help each other through this.
Hang on in there, it surely can't last for ever..... can it????
Hope you feel better soon
love

Wow, bless your hearts......literally!!
It is an awful feeling. As of now I dont get hot flashes but the palps and racing heart can be just terrible. Along with the pains in my chest and heavy feeling.
I too have had all the tests and thankfully they all come back good. I was telling a friend about this site today and how helpful it is to read of others with the same symptoms as you.
I found a female gyno and went for a pap last week......I was SO hopeful that she would have an understanding of peri-meno. BUT instead she wants to do an ultrasound adn perhaps a biopsy of my uterus.....goodness. I said I really think Im just in Peri-meno and she looked at me like I was speaking another language. I was SO disappointed. She said we really need to rule out everything else first. After she said she doesnt think anything is wrong but "lets just make sure". Grrrrrr My friend said I shouldt do it but then I will wonder "what if" again. On and on it goes.
This has been a good week.....very few palps. Which is a breath of fresh air because last week was about the worst it has been.
Thanks ladies for helping with my sanity!!!!

Yes, yes I have gotten palp's/skips before a hot flash too! I used to wake up from a dead sleep w/ heart pounding & panicky - thought I must have been having a nightmare - and then the hot whoosh would follow.* But must also say that I have them w/out the hot's - most often this is the case for me. I know that caffeine, sugar, alcohol & stress definitely are triggers for palp's & skips. And I just was reading about aspartame [Nutrasweet/Splenda] being a possibility too! That was one I'd never heard before... don't drink a lot of diet sodas anymore, but I have been drinking "Lite" cranberry juice and doesn't that have aspartame too.
Have had these darn things for years. And they've gotten a lot worse now that my peri symptoms are raging too. Folks at this site are really a help - it's a comfort to know you're not alone.

*Taking natural HRT has helped the hot flashes & pounding calm way down, but still get the skipped heartbeats.

I have been getting the heart palps for a couple years now.......so I knew something was in the air so to say.....lol. Since they turned into full blown panic attacks I am much more aware of them and trying very very hard not to get scared when I feel them starting.......I do deep breathing and tell myself its cool.......relax.......I do find that the palps do hit before a hot flash but I have also had them before a cold flash as well............think it must be different for us all eh? I am happy to say that they are decreasing in intensity with my drastic reduction in the coffee and the sugars.......and its only been a couple days......also started on the magnesium as was suggested here by a couple of the girls.....not a high dose........just 50mg for now to see how my body responds to it.
