I have been using vagifem vaginal tablets for 1 month now. I was on 1 a day for 2 weeks and now I am taking 1 twice weekly. Prior to taking these I had not had a period for 3 months. All my breast tenderness had disappeared, but I was having hot flushes. The dosage of these is supposed to be so small as not to go into the bloodstream, but within 2 days of starting, my hot flushes completely went. I also found that I was less tearful and depressed.
In the past week, very gradually, my breasts became slight tender and then I had a very light spotting for 2 days which has now gone.
What I am asking is-does anyone else have experience of anything like this? I have been unable to take conventional hormone treatment because the side effects are too much for me. I am wondering if this is all just co-incidental,or is it that it is affecting my whole body because I am very drug sensitive?

Hi Janet! How are you? When I first started taking the Estrace cream I started having the same symptoms. Not sure at this point if it was related or not. I did get a period at that time, so they told me to stop taking it.

I've started again with it, but only 1/2 gram once a week, to keep the tissues supple.

BTW, keep your fingers crossed! The sliming APPEARS to have stopped! Also. regarding the slime, I read that the hormone creams/Vagifem, do cause some normal sliming.

Hope you are well, my friend!

Hi Janet,
I tried the Vagfem tablets a few months ago due to vaginal dryness... I took it once a week... The pros was it was easy to use, very convienient, vaginal dryness went away and the libido picked up a little bit... The cons - my blood pressure went up.. Before I took the first tablet, my BP was 90/60 - the highest it ever went was 115/75...within 2 weeks - my BP was 140/92 ohmy.gif ...that was not good. I went off Vagfem - and a month later my BP went back to w/in norm levels 120/75 or 120/80...so Vagfem definetly had a bad side effect for me...and it absorbed thruout my whole body and chemistry - not just in the vaginal area. So if your sensitive -please be careful Janet w/the side effects.

The GYN wants me to try Estrace vag. cream again at a super low dose - like 1/8 of the dose of the cream once a week... So I will - but I'm going to try out Vit. E capsules to and wean off the Estrace after the tissues heal.

Hi there-thanks for your reply. Actually, now you come to mention it, when i was using the vagifem every day for 2 weeks at the beginning, I was having terrible palpitations especially at night. I was like that when i was trying Hormone therapy and thats one of the reasons I came off it. I didn't realise that vagifem could have the same effect but it makes sense now. I have stopped it for a while now anyway, because i keep spotting , and I think its adversly affected my sex drive. I had no problems with that until i started vagifem

I used the Estrace cream for awhile. My doctor thought it would work as a bio-identical hormone and stop the anxiety and stuff. It did not but it worked quite well as a local lubricant. I was told for that purpose to only use it 1 or 2xs per week.

just to update-New years eve I suddenly got a severe headache, and an hour or so later had the worst bad mood i have had in ages. I then started spotting again which continued throughout New Years day-then today I started a proper period-the first one in 3 months. I am certain that the vagifem was the cause.
I think I will maybe just use it once a week at most from now on, like you are doing, Meryl. I had forgotten how horrible PMS was-mind you it used to last longer than a day! sad.gif

Two weeks after my somewhat watery period I went back on the vagifem. Only used it twice. Then I started cramping and spotting which lasted a week and gradually got heavier. Another week on I am still having cramps and bleeding(not flooding but as heavy as a normal period). My gyn says because I am peri my ovaries have been stimulated. But I have never had anything like this before. I have sore breasts continuously, and the cramping and bleeding just keeps going on. I stopped the vagifem when all this started but I cant help thinking that this has been the cause of it all.
Has anyone else had experience of this type of thing after using local estriol? Until I started it I had not had a period for 3 months. As soon as I started the vagifem my breasts got sore so I am obviously very sensitive to it
