Hi everyone,
I have read a lot about hot flashes, but has anyone ever gotten chills??

I know it is winter, but I get cold chills so bad. I know what hot flashes are like, but these chills are driving me mad (and that doesn't take long now a days)!! blink.gif

Anyone's imput would be great, I am new to all of this. I turned 40 in July and have been healthy and strong my whole life, then one of the gods said "Oh, here is a birthday present!"

Have have had almost every symptom in the book, but no one seems to talk about the chills.

Also, as anyone felt like they could run a marathon because they think their heart is going 500 beats a minute, but you take your blood pressure and it is 124/74 and your pulse is 72?? Have been getting this in the mornings when I wake up.

Have found that laughter is a big help. laugh.gif wink.gif

Hi, Isthisforreal! (What a great nickname! Certainly reflects my feelings about all this.) I was just going to post a message about how these Chills Are Driving Me Crazy! I'll be nice and snug and warm in bed and suddenly it feels like a great cold ocean wave is washing over me. Then it washes over me again and again and again.

If you do a Google on "menopause chills" you'll find a lot of web sites listing chills as a primary symptom of menopause.

I started getting very mild chills about 5 years ago. I'd feel this sort of electric pulsing moving through my body as a I dropped asleep. No big deal, just weird feeling. Now I know when I'm about to drop asleep because I get hit by the cold ocean waves. They come every night now. Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

I also wake up in the night from such chills.

I've been drinking Revival before I go to bed. Although it's alleviated my night-sweats it doesn't seem to have helped the chills.

In the past few months I've had every sort of endocrine bloodwork test known to man and everything has come back normal.

My mom recently went off HRT after 40 years on Premarin. She's now getting the chills too.

Hi Ladies,

I've had cold patches at times...like one arm that felt cold or one side of my face. I also have been just cold all over and I shiver occassionally. I noticed too that for awhile my hands and feet were constantly cold. I have only had maybe 10 instances of mild nightsweats and no hot flashes. I typically feel more cold than hot. Wasn't sure if this was normal or not. I guess in peri nothing is normal sad.gif

Now that I am on natural estrogen the hot flashes have stopped almost completely but I do still get cold chills frequently. It is worse now because it went down in the 20's here last night. My feet seem to always be cold lately and I have to wear socks to bed at night. But I always seemed to be cold when my husband was hot long before menopause set in completely.

i too get the chills. they went away when i was taking herbs for peri, but now that i've stopped i can tell they're coming back. and now isn't a good time because it's winter!

I am also always cold. I sit in front of the fire wrapped in a blanket and am still freezing. My husband is walks around the house in shorts and barefeet saying how hot he is. I have not had a hotflash during the day but do get night swaets from time to time. My hands and feet are always cold though.

Thanks for writing back, I will also check out that link.

I'm not sure of the correct name, but I my mother in law gave me a cloth bag filled with uncooked rice one year for Christmas, I thought what the heck will I ever do with this.
Well, I came across that thing a couple of weeks ago. I pop it in the microwave for about 3 minutes and it is the most wonderful feeling on my cold feet.

It will heat up your whole body in no time, the only problem is that it has given me hot flashes once or twice. But my feet seem to be so cold, it scares me sometimes.

If anyone is interested I can find out more about the bag.

Hopefully everyone is doing okay today tongue.gif

Feeling cold is also a symptoms of a slow thyroid..might want to check that out. I get cold spells too..it's usually an indication (one of several) that I have forgotten to change my estrogen patch!!

smile.gif Hi, isthisforrea

I would like to know more about the bag of rice. My feet get so cold especially during the winter. They are freezing at this very moment. Please send me some information. Thanks Tally rolleyes.gif

The rice pouches are very easy to make...you can double up a pair of tubes socks, fill it with uncooked rice...you dont want it bulging though, because you want it to be able to bend and form, or wrap. Sew the ends together, and pop it in the micro-wave for a minute.

you can also make your own tubes or small like pillow cases using flannel, add your rice and vio lah! also these work great in the freezer too for cold packs.

Hi Tally,

DaMomma is right on the way to make them.

I asked my mother in law and she made it using heavy fabric that she got at the fabric store. She doubled them over and filled them with rice then sewed them together. She put two bags side by side and then sewed them together so you can fold it over itself if you wanted to.

Hope this helps you in getting warm!! smile.gif

Sorry it took me so long to get back, I've been on vacation.

But not the easy (quick) cook rice.

These rice warming bags are *great*! One warning though....Keep them away from your dog. Our dog got a hold of one and thought it was just a super toy. Let me tell you, cleaning all that rice off the furniture and floor was a BIG headache. ohmy.gif

How did I miss this thread. Boy do I get chills! I get a case of the sweats with the chills at times. I have not had the hot flash though occasionally I wake up during the night and am sweating. 99% of the time I have chills and am cold even in the summer the chills were there.smile.gif

I am hot all the time but something strange that I do get are goosebumps. It has nothing to do with me being cold. I can be hot and just out of nowhere I will get goosebumps. I get them on my head, arms, legs. It is really odd! Anyone else have this...not necessarily cold but just the goosebumps? blink.gif

Sorry janne, cant say that I have right off hand...
isthisforrea
Hey Janne, Yes I have had them.

You will be just standing there and all the sudden you are covered with them. Mine start out slow and then as soon as they are here they are gone. rolleyes.gif

Hi everyone.

I am fairly new to posting here, but I was so happy to see this post. I too and freezing most of the time. I wear layers around the house and am still cold. However, when I go somewhere warm, I feel way too hot. It's almost like my internal thermometer is off. I am either freezing cold or steaming hot (and not like a hot flash). It's real annoying. I love this site and it has been so helpful. Thanks everyone. Bless.
