Does anyone have night sweats and wake up with dry mouth>  Any ideas to prevent?  Sometimes eyes feeldry also.  What a pain!! Women  endure too much.  Does this happen to anyone else?  Oh, thank God for this site1

Larrian Gillespie recommended recently trying A.L.A. for drymouth and it seems to have worked for me.  I think it's Alpha Lipoic Acid.  I would either get dry mouth or burning tongue or roof of the mouth.  I still have a tendency toward it at night but not like it was.

I get all the same symptoms and am gratefull for the advice.  But still have not found anything for the dry eyes problem.  If someone knows anything that will help please post.  :)

HI, I have sjogrens that goes with my Lupus and my eyes were so dry that I had some abrasion on the cornea.  I tried different drops, BUT when I went to my opthamologist he gave me the Systene drops, and said to use them FAITHFULLY every 2 hours.  Then at night before bed, put in an eye salve that you can get over the counter.  I am telling you this has saved me!!IF this works for my sjogrens, then maybe this is the answer to your dry eyes.  SO far my mouth is not dry, but I know that can happen with the sjogrens as well.I think if you try this, and are faithful about doing it every 2-3 hours, you will be happy with the results:>)  My very best to you,Hopefloats

dreamer:  I've got that cotton mouth problem too.  My mouth has been so dry that I've woken up choking and gagging for water.  I always have a glass of water on the night table beside me now.  Even during the day at times it's dry and my throat feels slightly sore or gritty.  I thought that maybe I wasn't dusting often enough, but I got every last bit of dust out of the room and still it's been happening.  I've had this for over a year now, so I can't tell you when it will end --- wish I knew myself.

Well... since you asked Darling... wink.gif Someone at Power Surge said recently that our estrogen level drops to its lowest point at 3 AM. Note that is when we starting waking and feel thirsty etc. We have discussed in other threads how the imbalance in (reproductive hormones) estrogen and progesterone ripples into imbalances in other hormones all over the body. So I think (this is just my opinion) that the estrogen drop is messing us up and making us thirsty. The solution is to balance the hormones, including doing things which support getting a good nights sleep. Check out the insomnia forum if you like. I also am eating a lot of apples while they are in season. I probably eat one or two just before I go to bed each night. You aren't supposed to eat just before sleeping, but it wouldn't hurt to try this out and see if it works for you. I don't know if it helps me or not, but when I am sick and upset I *crave* apples. Let me know if eating apples helps you.
darling
I will give this a try and report back to u whitehorses. I eat apples off and on but not regular.darling:o

Just got a prescription for Restasis for dry eyes. My eyes were tearing all the time, and my eye doctor said it was dry eyes causing it. She said the oil in our tears disappears over time and makes our tears useless for bathing our eyes. I'll let you know how this medicine works, but it sometimes takes as much as 3 months to see any relief.

I too have been suffering from dry eyes. I thought I was allergic to trees. My eyes actually hurt and itch when I wake up in the morning. I'm also always thirsty in the middle of the night. I keep a gallon of water by the side of my bed. I drink out of it several times a night.
LittleTroll
Yes, I have the dry eyes and mouth as well. Use eye drops during the day and ointment at night, and always keep water handy. That' s interesting about 3am being a low point for oestrogen, because it's always between 3 and 6am that I awake in an anxiety state. I Wish there were some drops or ointment for that!!

When I had my eyesight tested last summer, the woman who examined me said that as we age, our eyes tend to "dry out" due to the change in our hormone levels. Her recommendation is to use an OTC product like GenTeal (I use Moderate strength drops; also comes in ointment form) throughout the day. I use the drops about 4x/day. These are preservative-free, which is something she stressed. If you take a look, there are other comparable drops available.

I find my eyes are no longer the lovely shade of red they once were! rolleyes.gif

I have dry eyes too...when I wake up in the morning...it literally hurts to open my eyes, because there is no moisture. My mouth does not seem to be affected, but I do keep a water bottle on my bedside table.

Wow! I am so glad to read what you all have to say about the dry mouth. I thought it was just me and a weird thing. I have been having lots of dentist appointments lately and I almost can't make it through the sessions because of how dry my mouth gets and I never had this problem before. As well, I wake in the night in a panic over how dry my mouth is! Thank you for letting me know what I am going through is normal!
DaMomma
Shann hun, keep taking sips of water through-out the night , it wont "cure it" but sure helps! smile.gif

What really helps with dry mouth during the day are Aqua Drops, they are lozenges that really add moisture to your mouth. I first tried them when I had to take a decongestant and you know how dry you can get. Aqua Drops are in drug stores usually at the check-outs with the candy, they come in mint, citrus and now sugar-free.

I also have dry eye (everything is drying up, dry eye, crotch, you name it laugh.gif ) and use Systane eye drops and they work OK.

My eyes are glued shut when I wake up. I have to rub, rub, rub, pick and rub to open them. I also sleep with a gallon jug of water which I go through every three days. It's been like this for the past two years. <_<

Hmmmm I don't know about all this. I have itchy watery eyes quite often and a dry mouth - but I thought the dry mouth part had to do with my antidepressant. Isn't that one of the side effects? I thought itcy eyes were an allergy thing. Is is ALL peri stuff??????!!! sad.gif Rita

Pleasure to meet y'all. I appreciated finding this thread. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and just recently I've started waking with severe dry mouth. I can rub my tongue and there's not a hint of moisture, completely smooth and dry and sometimes it sticks to the (dry) roof of my mouth. I've checked with my doctor, a pharmacist and an RN. No one's heard of this, except as apnia related. They say it 'could be' a sign of diabetes. I have to book a glucose test and I'm afraid the dry mouth may be a sign of gestational diabetes!?! I feel alright otherwise, just the thirst and dry mouth drive me nuts. It's almost like my body is lacking electrolytes or something. I've started squeezing lemon in my water, which helps a wee bit, and I find if I drink orange juice (not from concentrate) as soon as I wake up, it helps a lot, even with future wakings. The estrogen point tweaked my interest. I'm really curious to get to the bottom of this, as healthwise it's the strangest thing that's happened to me...ever.
DaMomma
Celie, Huney, your pregnant!!!! First of all congrats hun... smile.gif

I have been through your type of adventure 6 times(pregnancy)...and I can tell ya, it happens during pregnancy!!!!...I would just keep a glass or bottle of water next to my bed at night and kept taking sips all night long.

I dont know where ya live but , the so called professionsal...that said they never heard of this before...are not well informed about pregnancy!!! sheesh, I'd like to snatch them by the scruff of their necks and take em out to the woodshed for telling you this... mad.gif

Make sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day as well. Juice and milk too! You can drink ports drinks off and on too ...with the electrolites in it..or even pedilyte now and again...

Your hormones are gonna be wacky, and to some regargds, peri/meno can feel so much like pregnancy! and purbity too..... ohmy.gif

Of course , you'll want to check out if it maybe gestation diabeties...

Is this your first pregnancy???
Celie
Hi DaMomma! Thanks for your reply. It's a relief to know this is somewhat normal in pregnancy. Yes, it's my first. I'm 33. I realized after posting this forum is mostly about menopause smile.gif . It's still good advice for pregnancy, which I think is similar in lots of ways. I'm surprised with my "professionals". I talked to a friend who just had her babe, and though she didn't have severe drymouth, she had it a bit. The one thing we seem to have in common is snoring brought on by pregnancy. (My husband's been sleeping on the couch I snore so loud. Haha.) I think it may just be that, though I am having my glucose test done tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

Celie, Its not just this forum Hun, but the Whole Power-Surge site is....tell ya what, if you would want to PM me..(Private Message) Id be more than happy to share my experiences with you...Not only have I had my own 6 children, But I have also coached 8 other friends during their pregnancies, labor and deliveries...not too mention all the calvin, horses, pigs, kittens, dogs...i have helped..sort of an old hand at it all...(pregnancies and deliveries) hehe

Something in your last post made me aware of something else, if you are just now starting to snore, try to sleep on your sides more. Also with the weather changing..at least here anyways..it would not hurt for you to either get a humidifier, or a cool mist vaporizer. You'll need one for when the babe comes at sometime or another. . That will help keep moisture in the air, and help with the dry throat and mouth thing too!!! smile.gif

Is it possible the dry mouth/eyes is because we're dehydrated from sweating from every pore for hours every night? I've been having 'rolling power surges' for weeks now. Usually it was just the week before my period I'd wake up a few times a night drenched, but lately it's just been one right after the other. Even if I manage to take a nap on the couch I break into a sweat.

All I want is some sleep!!!!! sad.gif

I am fairly new to Power-Surge but so happy to hear so many similar stories. I am 42 and have had night sweats here and there for past few years. I have two very large fibroids and am also anemic. As of late I have been having very strong night sweats and YES I wake up during the night feeling like I have been crawling through the desert.

I am lucky though as we own a European bakery and my husband gets up at 3:00 a.m. to go to work and he always brings me ICE WATER before he leaves. He just wants to stay in my good books smile.gif so he still gets some action with my sudden lack of labido smile.gif He truly is a saint.

I do think that the severe dry mouth is a symptom of all we sweat out. It is almost like when you have the flu with a fever but there is no fever.

What I hate is that I used to be able to wash my hair every other day as it is long but after sweating all night I wake up in the morning looking like Phyllis Diller with dark brown hair (HA! HA!). Sometimes I hate what I am going through so much that I have to look at the brigher side of life.

I have two wonderful teenage boys, we just bought our dream home last year, my husband is supportive and they are all healthy and I, well I am trying to keep my sanity.

Knowing that I am not alone is wonderful and I appreciate reading all the posts here as my doctor said, you are way too young for Peri. Hmmmmmmm even with a 4 month pregnant uterus full of fibroids... Hmmmm I wonder what the doc calls that ?????

I had my baby in January, she was 4 wks early. I think it was somehow related to my general condition (the night sweats, dry mouth). I also developed hypertension in my 7th month. She had a host of problems, but is fine (perfect) now at 4 months. I wish the same was true of me. I still have high blood pressure. I also have liver dysfunction, chronic hives and onset allergies (mainly dust and dust mites). The good news is I rarely get night sweats anymore, except when it's really warm out or if I eat before bed, which I don't anymore, and the dry mouth has disappeared back into the desert, where Perikat seems to have offered it a ride smile.gif Seriously, I hope you're feeling better soon. I hope I'm feeling better soon, too!!
