Does anyone have any suggestions for dry scalp? I brush my hair every night (100 strokes with a natural bristle hairbrush) and I like to shampoo each morning, lathering once only with a light shampoo, followed by a good hair conditioner. I've never had a problem with a dry scalp until now, as it is getting colder (and I'm obviously getting older). There's a patch of scalp behind my ears at the base of my hairline right above my neck that itches constantly.

I have this same problem, actually EVERYTHING is dry these days tongue.gif Anyway, I did a quick search the other day on the dry scalp thing and this is what was recommended:

Brush your hair frequently to remove the flakes.
Massage your scalp to improve circulation.
Avoid using alkaline based shampoos.
Try a jojoba oil based shampoo and use it regularly.
Intersperse the jojoba shampoo with an over the counter dandruff shampoo once a week: look for zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide or coal-tar formulas.
Try a final rinse of one cup warm water mixed with two to three tablespoons of white vinegar. This will also bring out the highlights in your hair and make it shiny.
Massage table salt into your dry scalp before shampooing with an acid-based shampoo.
Try an oil treatment in which you massage olive oil into your hair and scalp, cover your hair with plastic wrap and with two wet towels. Keep the towels on your head for twenty minutes, then remove oil with two washings.
Supplement your diet with foods rich in Vitamins C and B, which promote a healthy scalp, and healthy hair.

I think I'm going to try the olive oil thing. I'll let you know if it works!

Thanks for the tips, Leanne. Last year was the FIRST time in my life I ever had dry scalp - now it's constant. And it drives me nuts. And yes, I have dry EVERYTHING, too. I've gone through more damn lotions and such, it's ridiculous! I've yet to find something that works. Hopefully the added fish oil and B complex in my diet will help some - they claim it SHOULD.

Kleeo- Lately I've been using Neutrogena Body Oil and it's awesome. You put it on after a shower while your skin is still damp. I've noticed a HUGE difference in my skin since using it!! I don't know if you have a Costco out there in beautiful Maine, but that's where I buy it. You can probably get it at the Neutrogena website as well.

HUGZZZZZ back at ya!! biggrin.gif

leanne, thank you SO much for the dry scalp recommendations. I will definitely give those a try.

Kleeo, did you like the Neutrogena In-Shower Body Lotion? We were talking about this a year ago, and I lost the thread where I asked you if you liked it. I just bought another bottle last month. I love the fragrance more than anything! I went through a bottle last winter, so I made sure to get a new one for this winter as soon as I saw them advertising it on TV.

Thanks Leanne, I'll check it out! Sounds like it's certainly worth a try - I am SO dry I feel scaley!! sad.gif I'll bet Wal-Mart has it - and I'm going there tomorrow so will definitely search for it!

CSugar, the stuff I used last year was Oil of Olay In Shower lotion - I did like it, but it really didn't 'cure' the dry skin - just kind of sugar-coated it, so to speak. So I never bought anymore. It DOES smell good though, and DOES make your skin nice for a quick fix! I'm actually looking for something that will work more on a continuous basis. I have VERY difficult skin. blink.gif The stuff Leanne is talking about might just work for me where it's 'oil based'. I HOPE!

The lotion I have been using now for the past 3 years is called Hempz..yup made from hemp but no you dont get high, and no you dont smell like dope either..heheh its kinds spendy, you can get it at different saloons and or massage spas..for big bottle it runs 20.00 but it last a long time. and you dont have the greasy, slick feeling...I alos have to be careful what type of lotions I use, some will irritate the day lights outta me.

I had also a small itchy spot on the nape of my neck and I have using the Hempz lotion...it has seemed to be doing the trick...

HA HA DAMOMMA....it's SALONS, not SALOONS! laugh.gif

Kleeo, I was rinsing that Olay In-Shower lotion off too much. The trick is to just rinse a bit, otherwise I'd rinse it all off and be back to where I started.

DaMomma, I have the exact same itchy spot on my neck. I'm going to try what Leanne suggested too.

Thank goodness for this website and all my buddies. smile.gif

LMBO! I just caught that 'saloon' thing! TOO funny!! tongue.gif

Maybe that's what I was doing, CSugar; rinsing it off too much. Maybe I should give it another try with LESS rinsing?

Funny, because I have a spot on the nape of my neck that drives me nuts too! Sometimes it itches so bad it drives me nuts, and I irritate the devil out of it by scratching. I wonder if it's because we use more 'hair stuff' these days? I know I do.....MUCH more mousse and jell to hold the old hair in place.

And I HEAR you with the 'thank goodness for this website!' I have been a member here for SO long now that it has become part of my daily ritual.........WOW it would be awful if I didn't have it!
