Has anyone experienced an increase in hot flashes following a weight loss? I lost about 60 lbs a couple of years ago; that was when the hot flashes started. Then I lost about 15 more over the past six weeks and have been having WICKED hot flashes (I feel like I have a severe sunburn on my back--it's actually painful to touch) ever since. My hormone levels were checke and I was told estrogen and FSH were normal (not perimenopausal).

I can't think of another explanation. And I need to lose at least another 20-30 lbs!

Sounds logical to me!! The more body fat a person had, the fewer meno. symptoms they will have...and vice versa...the more petite a gal is, the more meno. problems she will have. Estrogen is either made by fat cells (tho most is made by the ovaries) or is stored in fat cells...I can't remember which one. So. If you are losing alot of weight and your body fat supply, you will indeed have more hot flashes and all the other stuff....sorry. But congrats on the weight loss!! smile.gif Just because your hormones were labeled as normal doesn't mean much...normal for who?? Maybe you've always had more than the "normal" person (whoever that is!!). And maybe you were on the bottom edge of that normal range.

Fat cells make estrone - the worst estrogen for us! However, it is estrogen, which could explain the hot flashes. I think taking bio-identical estrogen would be better then keeping extra weight for the estrone!
