December 2001 marked 12 months without a period for me.  All of a sudden this past week, I've felt that heavy feeling in my pelvic region and I thought a couple of times I noticed a pinkish tinge when I wiped myself, but this morning there was a definite pinkish mucas type discharge?  Not a lot, but enough to make me wonder what's happening.  Is this normal for post menopause?  I'm going for my yearly physical in a couple of weeks, so I'll mention it then, but I'd like to hear anything you ladies have to say.  Thanks.
Suzie
Hi Liz51,I'm not sure if that is normal for post meno, but the same thing has been happening to me . I'm still having fairly regular periods, but this last one hasn't really gone away. I'm still having very light spotting - kind of pinkish and it's day 11 of my cycle. My periods have been getting much lighter but usually last only 2 to 5 days.

Hi Liz.......I beleive it is very normal to have spotting even after 12 months of no period.  It happened with me twice. It is good that your physical is coming up so you can discuss it with your doctor, however it most probably isn't anything at all.  It wasn't a problem for me and according to Susun Weed, a well respected Herbalist and a Power Surge guest speaker, who authored Wise Women Ways "The Menopausal Years",  we can spot up to 2 years post without needing to be concerned  or alarmed.  So as long as it doesn't get worse I would try not to worry and make sure to mention it at your doctor's appointment.  It also wouldn't be inappropriate to just call the doctor and leave a message about the situation and see what he/she says.

Blessings and be well.

I just wanted to report that I told my doctor about the spotting (which was really just a pinkish discharge).  When he examined me he said my vagina was irritated, probably from lack of estrogen, and that was probably what caused it wasn't anything to worry about.  He said my uterus and ovaries felt "totally normal" and now I'm just waiting for the PAP test results.

Your information Irene, was very comforting though.  Now if it happens again I won't be alarmed.

Hi Liz......So happy to hear all is well.  It is so frightening this thing called "menopause" isn't it.  just when things seem to be going along well something comes up and then the anxiety thing kicks in.  This too shall pass and we will be wiser and stronger women, I hope. LOL

Blessings and be well.

Ladies,

Just wanted to share with you my experience with spotting after post-menopause.  I just  had a full-blown period after almost 2 years post-menopausal two weeks ago.  I do not take HRT, therefore the bleeding was a total shock.   I was very alarmed and went to the doctor yesterday for a complete examination and pap smear.  In addition, I had a blood test to check my hormone levels.   The doctor said that everything appeared normal after the  examination.  I honestly believe that my hormones have kicked in again and that's why I had a period.  Two weeks prior to the bleeding I had VERY sore breasts, which has always occurred in the past before my periods. I bleed for 5 days and everything returned to normal - no sore breasts or feeling of any discomfort!  I will let you know the results of my tests and what the doctor determines.  This menopause thing is enough to drive anyone crazy!   If anyone else has had a similar post-menopausal experience, please share with me.

I'm new to Power Surge. I was searching for as answer to why I'm having a faint pink discharge occasionally. It's been over three years since my last period. It's comforting to know other women have had the same thing. I have an appointment with a new GYN the first week in July, but I'm imagining all kinds of reasons for the spotting.

Back in March I too had a pinkish discharge.  I felt that full ness in my ovaries, with a lower backache.  Then in May I had that pinkish, then Oh no... it was "RED" I had a period for 2 days, and I have been told for the last year that I am in meno.

I went back to my GYN and had my pap smear, also when I had a pelvic my ovaries felt full so my doctor ordered a Pelvic Ultrascan ( we all need one) Everything came back normal  My doctor said my ovaries are still active.

I have a friend who is 63 never been on anything.  No symptoms until this year she started to have sweats and anxity.  NOw they started her on HRT and she is starting her journey...We are all so Individual, how can these doctor's try to lump us all together??

I think that the research should be done with all us women here on "Power Surge" I feel we could all teach the medical profession  that we are not alike and that more understanding and research has to be done...smile.gif

Suzie
I agree Boni! I think the doctors should definately study the postings from all the women on this site. How old are you? THat's amazing that your friend who's 63 is now just experiencing symptoms. Was she having periods up until now?

Sandee, I am 48 and have been menopausal for 2 years. I'm also on Evista. Started my period this past Wed. and if it doens't stop by this coming Wed, the doctor wants to do a pelvic ultrasound and endometrial biopsy.  I am very concerned as I'm sure you are.    Deb

I haVe a question for you post meno ladies. Does spotting count as a period during meno? I have missed my last 3 cycles , but before that I would get several days of spotting every 45-57 days. My last real period was in June.Suzie

Suzie, as long as it's just spotting and not actual bleeding, no. Spotting isn't unusual at all while you're making the transition from peri to postmenopause.

Some women even experience occasional spotting after having been without a period for the twelve months and becoming technically "postmenopausal." However, in cases where spotting continues postmenopausally, it's always wise to be on the cautious side and have it checked out by one's health care practitioner to make sure nothing else is going on.
