Sometimes when I think about stressful things I will have a hot flash attack.
Sometimes when I drink hot (or cold) drinks it will bring on a hot flash (or cold flash).
Are these things normal? I was wondering if I am bringing them on myself and somehow I have control over them....!!??!?!?!

Thanks

Kay

Hi Kay, yes, I think it must be normal for stressful situations to bring on hot flashes. I get them whenever I'm 'startled' or over stressed. When I drink my coffee first thing in the morning that sometimes triggers a flash, too. Strange, huh? lol! I'm unsure if there is any way to control them or not. Guess I'm just used to them now!
HUGS!

"Normal". That used to be one of my favorite words. Menopause changes the rules of "normal". I'm trying really, really hard to throw all my preconceived notions of normal out the window. For months on end, every night without fail, I would have a killer hotflash between 11:00 and 11:20 p.m. That's what I kept thinking...IS THIS NORMAL? (No one ever answered me. biggrin.gif ) Ya know...why always at the exact same time?

I've never noticed a consistent trigger for my flashes. For several weeks now the flashes have been far and few between.(which has been a wonderful thing.) Is it the cooler weather? The way the planets are aligned? I dunno. Will they be back tomorrow?
Who knows.

Kurly Kay...sweetie, if you find a way to control them...please share it with us !!!!

Pam....with a far away look in her eye fondly recalling normal....

Hi all,
I didnt know where to actually post this question so am just taking a guess that i am in the right spot. I have been having hot flashes immediatly following sex lately.....I mean right away.......they seem to come with orgasm. This is distressing......its awful cause my face flames right up.....anyone else have this happen??
ionaferrari
Jadie--Yep! But, unlike coffee and alcohol and a few other things, I have decided that's one hot flash trigger I really DON'T want to avoid wink.gif laugh.gif

I guess I am lucky that I only have occasional night sweats and have not had a hot flash. I told my dr. that I get a racing heart and dizziness off and on and she said that sounded like a hot flash...I told her I had no heat or flushing....so who knows. I know these things are all unique to each person....

Oh yeah...I must agree with ionaferrari....can't give up alcohol and caffeine...though I drink less coffee now...just seem to need/want less of it. Weird....

LOL@ionaferrari........well put. Strangest thing too.......I had my first panic attack a week ago tonite. I have been drinking near 2 pots of coffee a day for the last 20 years and suddenly........dont need it anymore? Normally prior to this attack if I went two hours without a cup of coffee I got a crashing headache. Now I am only
drinking a cup in the morning and maybe one in the afternoon.....and no headache????? Too much adrenaline in the body already......I cant figure it out.....not that I am complaining mind you......its better in the long run and definatly cheaper. Just odd.

Bethann,

My doctor also told me that my off balance/lightheaded feeling is either from shifting hormones or a form of a hot flash. When I get that feeling my hands sweat. She said that is a form of a hot flash. Up until last night the only place that would sweat were the palms of my hands so I just chucked that up to anxiety but no..as I learned to recognize my symptoms as I was feeling lightheaded I noticed that they happen at the same time..the lightheaded/sweaty palms. Now this morning I woke up at 4:50 am and my tshirt and shorts and bed sheets were soaked! I have never in 8 months of living in peri land have ever had a night sweat so bad that I actually soaked my clothes. It was a very odd sensation. As soon as I got out of bed I felt the moisture just evaporate off me. Then I got chilly. I remember some of the other gals on here telling me that I was lucky that just my palms sweat that way I would not ruin my clothes. Well so much for that!

Jill~
