Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?

Back in Dec '04 my doctor tested my FSH which was 48. My periods since then for the most part have been coming every 60-75 days. I just had my FSH re-tested a few days ago and it came back at 11.7

Now...I'm very confused...I thought to be in peri your FSH levels had to be very high? Could someone help me with this...as I'm in a hormonal nightmare right now. Even my thyroid was elevated a few weeks ago ago at 6.87....now...its normal again at 1.71. I'm feeling worse than ever....but,, my FSH and TSH are now in the "normal" range ...coming down dramatically.

Now I'm so scared...I have another horrible disease and I'm more confused than I've ever been in my whole life. I'm feeling worse than ever.

Hope you lades have some input on this.

Thank you.

Soscared..hun, what did your doctor tell you?

I'm in the middle of changing primary docs. I go to the OB/GYN next month...I have NOT had my estrogen and progesterone levels checked...just FSH.

The above mentioned lab results came from the Urgent Care Clinic that I went to the other night after several days of feeling so badly. I was hoping that some of you ladies would have some input ....about perimenopause causing extreme weakness and / or fatigue.

Soscared...whats this other horrible disease they say you have other than what you have stated? Hun, yes, it is draining, there is fatigue, and some days one can handle move around.

If you read through all of the different forums, you can see that this is so common, and I encourage you to even read the other information that you can click on in the main menu....

I dont know much..well really anything about the FSH levels and whatnots...that didnt/doesnt interest me, so I cant be of only use for information there. It was my Dr....male at that time that said...yep, you're into peri alright. He was also the one that said that he thought I should have some tests run to check if his hunch was right.

I didnt have a clue what all was going on, I just thought my depression, anxiety and that maybe my lymes disease had came back. So I was blessed there with him.

I took the Estroven home FSH test last week. It tells you in the instructions that your FSH fluctuates when you're in the peri stage. My test result was normal but it tells you to take the test again two weeks after the first one (the kit includes 2 tests). The second test can show normal results even if you are in the peri stage just because of all the fluctuations. Even though my result were normal after the first testing, I'm pretty sure I'm in the peri stage with all the symptoms I'm having. I started my period last Friday and I was done on Sunday (2 days) that's never happened to me before.

I am curious if testing for estrogen and other hormones are reliable or if they fluctuate just as much.

Hi everyone! Hormone levels flucuate so much duri peri you can't go by them. You could have them tested two days in a row and get different results.

Lorrie so sorry your still feeling so badly. Good news though that your thyroid levels are back to normal!! Hang in there this peri ride is a rough one!!
