I do have an occasional night sweat but what has also recently started for me is sweating during the day...I can do just a little housework, nothing major and I will sweat so bad that all my clothes feel damp...I used to be able to do a lot of work before I would sweat....and sometimes I will pop out in a sweat when I am just sitting still...does this happen to anyone else....I swear everyday is a new surprise with this meno crap. I forget what it feels like to feel normal. huh.gif

Tina,

All can say is DITTO DITTO DITTO!!!!!!!!

I thought it was just me

I don't have hot flashes or night sweats, but find that I do generally feel a little warmer than normal and if I'm active, I do get hot very quickly. I've noticed that I have used the air conditioning more this summer even at temps that I normally wouldn't because I can get hot so much more easily and it just feels more uncomfortable to be in warmer temps. This is wierd because I typically like the warm more than the cold and can tolerate warmer temps better.....maybe that's changing.
fab4everfan
I hate that anyone else is suffering with the sweats and yet I am somewhat relieved that I am not alone in what I am feeling..I even sweat on the backs of my hands....it is REALLY getting on my nerves and is embarrassing around other people. I am 55 and have been having meno symptoms for ten years now.....I can handle the hot flashes much better than these constant sweats....I feel like I have to shower at least twice a day....housework, yardwork...any kind of physical work and I am drenched.....I complained to my husband about the sweating and he just said...."You need to lose some weight"......
Any good adive for this ol lady would be appreciated!!

The only place I sweat is my hands. I use to wake up every morning with sweaty hands and the soles of my feet would even sweat! I have a very light mist on my arms, chest, and back and even that does not happen every time I get a hot flash. But, the sweaty hands happen EVERY time I get a flash. I hate it too. I hate when I am at a meeting for work and have to shake hands with people. But, I will take the sweaty hands over the lightheadedness any day! Just another funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn meno symptom blink.gif

Fab...my first impluse was to tell you to boot that ole man outta the door..that would make ya a whole lot lighter..heh now now, all kidding aside..maybe.. wink.gif

The other gals on here can tell which vitamins, and/or hebs helps with sweats...i take alot so, Im not sure what is for what right now.

One trick to help me feel better, is that when Im out doing yard work, I take a hand towel, get it wet, wring it out some, and put it in the freezer..then i wrap it up, (after it is frozen) and roll another handtowel around it and drape it around my neck.

My Auntie told me this one...take your favorite body power, mix it with some baking soda and apply to your body before you get dressed. Especially in between your legs( not your naughty bits..baking soda has a tendency to create yeast infections) like on your thighs, back, and pits The baking soda helps asorb (sp?) the moisture and odor..ordor.. the stench..humph.. anyway...

Another thing I do for outside is take a sponge that is about 4 to 5 inches longand about 1/2 inch thick. If you need to get a larger sponge you can cut it down to those dimensions using either a razor, or sheet rock knife, or utility knife and use a sturdy ruler for your guide.. Then take an ice pick or sharp awl and pierce at both ends, about3/4 of an inch from the edges..going lengthwise, and use either, yard or elastic and tie both ends to the opposite sponge ends... soak the sponge in cool water, wring it out and place on your forehead, above eyebows. This helps not only catch the sweat from going into your eyeballs, or daggle off your nose, but also helps keep ya cool. ph34r.gif

Good mornin' Girls...
I've come to the conclusion that I led a charmed life for the first 42 of my 46 years. This sweating thing is miserable. Prior to starting down the menopause path I did not sweat. Ever. Even with exertion on the hottest days. I would get a little sheen on my upper lip or a little between the boobs. I would see people sweated wet and think oh my gosh...how horrible would that be? Welp. I was right. It is horrible. I never feel clean...other than right out of the shower. The night sweats have me waking up feeling like I ran a marathon and lost. So, I take the first thing in the morning shower. And feel clean for about a hour till a hot flash hits. Then yuck. Hair of course gets all sweaty then dries. Looks like bed head. Just feel dirty from the sweat. How many showers can a girl take in a day???
This is truly showing me that I should be more grateful for the small things. Like not sweating. Oy vey.
SugarNSpice
Ahhh, it does get better as time goes on...I promise you - it does. As quickly as it starts and you think it will never end... it stops that quickly. Just walking up a step use to make me sweaty and housecleaning was horrible - I took many, many showers... And I switched deodorants trying to make them work.....

And then...all the sudden I noticed that I don't sweat as much... I can go up the steps without being sweaty and housework doesn't bring out a sweat, ahhhhh... it definetly gets better as time goes on...

Blessings,
Stacy

Oh, I can so relate! All I have to do is cook supper in a warm kitchen and I'm sweating like mad though no one around me is even hot! Then of course, because I'm hot, I don't feel well, and because my stomach doesn't feel well, along comes an anxiety attack and I'm heading for the bathroom. blink.gif My husband and kids look at me like I'm nuts!

Isn't this just all so much fun!?!?! Oy vey is right! huh.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif I can understand!!!! I sweat standing still!!! It is nasty and I think what is worse it the people that say "Are you alright?". Then I have to explain. rolleyes.gif I sweat so much that even my underwear is soaked with sweat!
For a bit, I noticed my deodorant was not so effective ohmy.gif So I went and bought a new kind, and then another and another. I have about 10 deodorants on my dresser now. I ended up being put on RX deodorant, which works wonderfully. Now the only thing that stays dry on me is my armpits!! laugh.gif

SugarNSpice - thankyou for your words of encouragement! i can look forward to this ending some time!!

cos like you all, i too sweat like crazy at the least exertion, and it's summer here now which really doesn't help.. even with the air con blasting cold air at me, i'm in a full lather just sitting here doing nothing more strenuous than typing.. here it is 6:45am, and i am already sweating heaps..

the other part of this is the odour.. no way to put this delicately, i smell worse than i ever have in my life when i sweat, especially my lower region.. it's different than i used to smell as well..

i really hate this process. i want it finished with! last time i stopped my periods for 8 months, and i was really hanging out for a last 4 months, but have had periods now for 5 months in a row, altho i didn't have hot flushes with them. i'm back to no periods, hot flushes and night sweats again now, and i hate summer with a passion! i'm nearly 53, it has to stop soon!
zen
just remembered too.. i was out the other day, swapping some books at the book exchange.. there was no air conditioning in there, and it was a warm day.. i wondered why the (older) woman in there was looking at me strangely, and then realised i had sweat rolling off my face, the back of my hair was wet when i took it off my neck.. i could feel it rolling down my back too.. i caught her looking at me, smiled and just said 'it's hormonal' and she smiled back, saying 'been there.... just glad you are not sick" argh...
Amanda M
This is me too. I noticed only today doing the chores, nothing heavy, just vacuuming and stuff and my head was leaking like mad, the usual sweat zones, armpits etc seemed quite normal but my head and back were clammy and damp, a different sort of sweating is how I would describe it.

I see it goes away, but how long do we have to put up with it for, roll on the winter!

Amanda

I've been sweating like crazy for about 4 months now and I can't take it anymore. This summer was torture with the humidity and even now that it's cooler I'm still sweating buckets with most everything I do. The most sweat I ever had on me before was a little on my forhead and neck if I was working outside on a hot day. I'm just hoping this gets better real quick.
AngieSW
Though I feel not so alone anymore since you ladies all break out in sweat with little effort, I wish for all of us they would just go away. My problem with the sweating is a change of mood at the same time. I can be perfectly ok, do a little housework, start the hot flashing bit and just get irritated as heck too. What's up with that? mad.gif I can make myself bring one on every morning after taking a shower, just by trying to blow dry my hair and using a brush, or just raising my arms to fix my hair for a little while. After I go for my daily walk, I will get a huge hot flash about 20 minutes later, like clock work.
I live in a place where we get lots of sunshine and warm weather with very little rain. This is the first year I have seriously considered moving away because I cannot stand these 90 to 110 degree temperatures anymore. It is now to the point where I longingly wait for winter so I can be fairly comfortable again. I can always shed layers if I have to, but in the summer time I sure feel like shedding my skin too.

Hi all....yes, Amanda! Roll on the winter! It's autumn here but not cold enough for me yet. In fact, we just had a warm spell again, after I dug out all of my winter clothing and put my summer stuff away. Amanda, I have four cats and have to do cat litter duty twice a week. This means sweeping up spilled litter, changing trays, changing newspapers underneath, hauling heavy cat litter bags up and down the basement stairs. Who needs to lift weights?? I do already. Last night was cat litter duty, and I was already tired when I started. Man, I was SOAKED with sweat in a few minutes, the flashes coming one after another. Took me about half an hour to calm down and get rid of them.

Angie, I always feel irritated when I'm flashing. I don't know what starts first--feeling irritated or the flash. I do flash when I'm stressed. Do you?

I may be alone in this, but I DON'T like warm weather. Give me a cold day anytime! But not windy, just crisp and cold!
arla
I know CSugarGrove, I get flashes when I do physical things too. I never even used to break out in a sweat when I exerted myself so I hate this. I also get irritated. I think the flash irritates me but then most things do these days.

I do have an occasional night sweat but what has also recently started for me is sweating during the day...

Here I sit in front of my computer, the window open and its 60 degrees. The A/C wall unit is full blast spraying the cool air directly on me... and I'm sweating, my head is soaked, my neck is dripping with sweat and every other part of my body is stuck to my wet clothes. So far, I've done nothing but sit here. And that's how I start my day! ha..! laugh.gif

At night, I lay in bed with hubby wearing a very thin pull over and a light robe. When the hot flashes burst through my body, I throw the covers off, lift up my pull over and let the a/c and fan do what they can, which isn't much to cool me down. After the flash stops, I freeze. I wrap myself back up in my pull over, robe and 3 blankets. I sleep, if lucky, 2 hours at a time, up for 2 hours and then about 7am, I fall fast asleep for 8 hours or so. My bed sheets are soaked and smell so I spray them with fabreeze and wash them every other day. wink.gif

I was using Dove deodorant before this start in full force but I'm using Sure unscented twice a day. I also flour myself with baby powder from my neck to the top of my knees. It feels cool, I like the smell, and it helps through the first hot flash! laugh.gif

I have hot flashes day and night and luckily I have a home business so I can smell and sweat and be miserable and nobody has to know about it biggrin.gif

Just turned 50 and it came in with a ball of fire!

I wish you the best ladies!

oohhh...this is one of the worst parts of this I think. I was standing in church one day this past summer and it was so embarrassing because sweat was rolling down my legs and pooling in my shoes....eeewwwwww.

I've gotten much better since I've been on the estrogen patch. I run so it doesn't take much exertion to get me sweating anyway, but it's back to more of a normal level and it smells normal again...not that rank smell.

Isn't this just gross sometimes? I swear there have been times though, especially in the summer, when it's taken everything in me not to just start stripping off clothes when one strikes. I've lived in the southern US all my life, so I'm used to heat and humidity, but this is a different kind of hot. It's so hard to describe. I can so relate on the night stuff too. I call it my little "covers on, covers off" game. Covers on, covers off. Covers on. Covers off. I too sleep in two hour increments.

No wonder we're all witchy as can be. Men would just crawl in a hole and die if they had to deal with this stuff. Can you imagine what they'd be like? laugh.gif

Hi, All! I am kind of new in posting on this board, but I have been reading a long time. I just wanted to add my two cents about the sweating. I get all those same symptoms without much effort--to the point I just have to sit down sometimes before I pass out from the heat and the sweat. I also get an intense amount of anxiety where my ribs cometogether in the middle of my chest. Sometimes it's so bad I feel like I am on the verge of having some kind of convulsion. Then it all passes within a half hour or 45 minutes, and it's like "what was all that about?" Of course, sometimes the cooldown is to the point of intense chills. Siiiggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! blink.gif

I'm glad to hear you write about the burst of anxiety where the ribs come together. My hot flashes start there. It feels like when I've watched a firework explode in the sky. Its like a circle with the different legs of the firework exploding inside of me. It starts in the center of the circle and spreads out in that area. When I'm laying down, I have to sit up. Its a very restless feeling. The flash goes right to my face, head and then the rest of my total body. I've parted my hair in pigtails to try and cool me down faster. It works for my head but I do sweat just as much. I'm having this about every 20 minutes. I don't have much energy or want to do anything. I just started taking Estroven, extra strength, and I do notice a small difference for a few hours. The hot flashes aren't as intense. But as the day goes on, the flashes are back in full force. It feels like a nuclear blast just went off inside my body. We've been down to the 50's here in Vegas at night. When I have the flash, I stand at an open window to try and cool off but I can't feel the cool air right away. It takes about 5 minutes before I can actually feel the cool air. I feel like I'm being sunburned from the inside out... laugh.gif

The chills are right to the bone. I put a hand towel under my pajama top to soak up the sweat. The towel isn't tight to my body so it soaks up the sweat and keeps the sweat off my body and then the chills aren't so bad on my chest and keeps me warm. The rest of my body is frozen, tho. cool.gif

Does anyone have bone pain in the chest - sternum area? I don't have it every day but some days during the hot flash. Odd feeling. sad.gif

Well, the only good thing about this is no more monthly cycle. Could you imagine that on top of this?? I think there would be a new legal term for murder or mutilation... laugh.gif

Good luck ladies!

I just want to ask about the bone pain, pain in the sternum. I have a feeling of heaviness in my sternum, a feeling of tightness there...anyone else?

I just ran across this thread and see that a lot of it is old. I was relieved to see this though because I seem to be having these problems ever since the beginning of the year, which incidentally was the last time I had a period. I've got the covers off, covers on thing. I am always warm...unless the air conditioner is set at 68 I am dying. I can just be sitting at my desk typing and I start to feel so warm and i have to go stand in front of a fan. When I am putting my makeup on I'll get warm and start sweating just applying lipstick!!. I have noticed that all I have to do is think about running the vacuum and I start sweating. And i've had that tightness and circles thing that is always followed by a hot flash of some kind. Lately I have thought I was cracking up....but it's so nice to find this today...it makes me feel a lot better.

I was like this last summer, in fact it was the worse summer of my life. I couldn't do anything without having sweat just pouring off of me which also made me extremely irritated. I haven't had a period for over 12 months now and so far this summer I have barely broken out in a sweat (even in the hot South Carolina sun). I still get the odd weaker hot flash but it is nothing compared to last year. Just wanted to let you know that it does get better. Arla.

Thanks all of you who wrote about this. I'm 45 and having LOTS of menopausal symptoms but still having regular periods. Today I had my first day sweat, and I was so embarrassed and frightened and confused! I was leading an important meeting when I broke into a heavy flop-sweat that just wouldn't quit. My colleagues were all staring at me, aghast. And I didn't know what was happening to me.

I was so relieved just to see the subject line "Day Sweats/Sweating With Little Effort" I am so grateful for your reassurance and sage advice!

Thanks to you, I'll know next time to say lightly "It's hormonal, I'm fine" and keep fanning, and leading my meeting, and mopping my face. I feel reassured to know that somewhere in the room, some other woman knows exacly how I'm feeling!

A tip I've learned -- Five years ago, when I started flashing (without sweating) I began to keep inexpensive chinese paper fans in my desk drawer, nightstand, briefcase, handbag, etc. I figured, if I'm going to have to fan, I want to make it a fashion statement! Fanning gives me an outlet for the energy surge, cools me down, and other folks think its charming. On the few occassions when someone expresses surprise that I'm feeling hot, I just tell them I'm having "a little private weather".

Join the crowd. I don't generally have night sweats (not since I gave up caffiene) but I can be doing next to nothing during the day and suddenly be drenched. I was strolling through a store the other day. A hot flash hit followed by sweat dripping down from head, rolling down my face and neck. So embarrassing! I got home from work today, changed clothes and the same darn thing happened, and it is really not that hot or humid today. Enjoy! huh.gif

i just love that! 'a little private weather' i must try to remember it... lol!

i see i wrote here well over a year ago now.. i am holding out hopes for my next summer, that this will not be as bad for me.. altho, it's winter now, and i am still sweating when the hot flushes hit.... sad.gif

I thought I was losing it. I kept thinking that this is NOT hot flashes because I am hot all day long. I go to bed hot and then about 2 am I'm cold. I cover up and am fine until about 5 am. I get up to use the bathroom and come back sweating. I then am hot for the rest of day. I wake up and if we left the house open all night (summer now) the house can get to 65. And I'm HOT. The family is freezing. Any thing I do brings on the pouring sweat. The back of my neck is the worst. If I don't have my hair in a pony tail I'm miserable. I told my husband that I wasn't like this last year. Sure you sweat in the summer when you work around the house but I break out in a sweat just crossing the house! It's crazy. I sweat when we are out shopping which makes that miserable! The only time I'm not sweating is when I'm sitting still in an air conditioned room. If I move..it starts. My only relief is from 2-5 am and then I'm sleeping.

I'm 45.5 years old and counting the days till winter!

Here..here....I've always been the cold one and just recently, everything I do gets me sweating ...cooking dinner and I'm ripping off clothes as I go! And when in the car this summer, it's always been a battle with hubbie who runs the AC on high and I'd be an ice cube before we got to our destination!!! Just the other day he told me HE'S freezing because I kept turning the AC up......

Does this mean I'll be comfortable this winter instead of cold all the time ???

Hugs to all,

You sound exactly like me. All I have to do is move around a bit and sweat is dripping down my head. Gross! I am constantly hot at work. The temp there is set at 74. I have a fan in my cube that runs constantly. Otherwise I would be dripping there as well. I am so glad I read this thread, I thought maybe something was terribly wrong!
arla
I can't believe I'm sweating again. I read my last post in this thread where I felt so much better and I was barely sweating.
Well, the hot flashes are back, maybe not quite as bad but enough to irritate me and boy have I been sweating. It is very hot and humid here but even in the AC I've got it running down my back constantly again. Oh to be myself again!!! Arla.

Hi Ladies,

I see I posted here nearly a year ago and I just want to say how much I have improved in this area over the last year. As some of you will know we have not had much of a summer this year in the UK so I am sure that is a help but it has not been so bad for a while, even on warm days. The AC at work has been broken for the last few days and apart from this morning, my period is due sometime soon and I find it is worse anyway during this time of the month, I have not noticed it.

I have been doing the garden and housework without last years perpetual dripping of the head which is just great.

Hoping thus this period for you passes too and long may it stay away for me!

Amanda xx
