Has anyone successfully weaned themselves off Oestrogel or similar?

I am 42 and have been using Oestrogel since the beginning of the year (0.75mg / day). I started using it because I had symptoms of low oestrogen (night sweats, crawly skin, anxiety, vaginal dryness, waking frequently at night) and my oestrogen test came back low.

At first, my symptoms improved, but I am starting to wake up at 4-5am again, especially in the first week of my cycle with internal shaking / tremors / anxiety. I am also experiencing breast tenderness. I suspect an imbalance in hormones is causing this and my oestrogen is too high.

My latest Oestradiol test was over the range - 623 on the first day of my period (Follicular phase 46 – 607).

I also have an underactive thyroid, which causes a lot of symptoms itself - and may have actually been responsible for the low oestrogen level in the first place. Excess oestrogen will not be helping my thyroid either.

I recently tried to wean myself off oestrogel, but was quickly met with withdrawal type symptoms – shakes, anxiety and cold sweats (especially at night). I would still like to wean myself off it - but how do I go about it without feeling terrible? How long will withdrawal symptoms last?

Any help gratefully received

SilentSal..Hun, I havent taken this type of meds before..BUT with any type of medications you are trying to stop...first and far most..call your doctor.

Now I dont know what kind of he/she is or what type of clinic you go to, but with mine, I call ask the recp. if I could either have her voice mail and leave a message asking her to return my call, or even just speak to their nurse. They need to be able to place it in your charts and also they should have a good idea what steps you can take.

Another suggestion, is to call the pharmacy where you get your meds. i know that there are a several chain drug stores, that they would talk to you even if you dont go there.

Hi SilentSal,

May I ask a question? Do you use any progesterone during the month? (It helps balance the estrogen.) Just curious. I hope you feel better very soon,

Blessings,

Nancy
