Has anyone of you been diagnosed with vulvodynia? What treatment were you given and did it work? How did you manage driving when sitting is such a pain?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Annie,

I was diagnosed with this a few years ago. It was really horrible and I'm sorry you're going through it.

My doc advised that I change my diet to exclude acidic foods and drink (like OJ, any citric acid, tomatoes, alcohol, COFFEE (I had to just cut back on that), tea etc. Also, I started taking 3 - 4000 mg of calcium daily. I was concerned about this, but found that it helped so I did it. When you go to the bathroom, just dab yourself instead of wiping, which is irritating to your skin. Of course during sex use something like KY for lubrication.

I only did this for 6 months or so...can't remember exactly but it wasn't very long. I really love fruit and tomato juice and wine too much though...lol And I didn't like taking all those calcium pills.

I haven't had a problem since! I was so afraid after the diagnosis and then reading posts from other women who have had no success, but that little bit of vagina pampering, really helped.

Oh...use a mild soap like Dove, too.

Good luck and hang in there! biggrin.gif

Dawn,

I had already read that thread. I used to be on Estrace cream and it helped then it seemed like it made the burning worse so I went on compounded estrogen and testosterone cream from Bellevue Pharmacy which helped until last week and then it seems like it too is worsening the problem. I discontinued the cream and, though the pain is vaginal, the bladder pain killer Uristat gives me some relief.

Milatova,

I've read the dietary restrictions for vulvodynia and IC (interstitial cystitis) and I think: no way! If I eliminate tea, leavened bread, aged cheese, citrus, tomatoes, yogurt, soy, peanuts, spinach, chocolate and wine, then I'm going to be starving! Today I bought some calcium citrate pills and I thought they helped a bit. Is it too soon to impact it? Placebo effect perhaps? Anyway, if pills work, I have no qualms swallowing them!!!

Sometimes I use no soap, I just soak in hot water. Sometimes I use Aveeno dry skin relief body soap. Yes, I am going to need plenty of luck! I have trouble with my back too, so maybe the burning is due to a pinched nerve. Thanks to both of you for the info! It is comforting to know I'm not the only one out there with that pesky problem!
