Ok ladies,

Has anyone else out there had day sweats that lasted two hours? I am DYING here.

I seem to start sweating around 9 almost every day...it's really bad when it's the least bit humid outside (I live in a place that doesn't have AC in any buildings or homes--we are in the mountains but any little humidity with no breeze just gets me going, regardless of temp).

If I have a fan on me I don't sweat nearly as much as otherwise.

I sweat buckets--rolls down between my breasts and back...once I start I can't seem to get a handle on it for about two hours. It seems the more I notice it the more I sweat.

I teach beginning next week between 9 and 11 and that is the worst time...so I can't wear anything that is the least bit dark. I even stained a white shirt last week, looked like someone had thrown weak iced tea on my back and then I let it dry. It was so embarrassing!

I am not hyperthyroid so that isn't causing my sweating. I don't feel especially warm --well, at first I do--but then I just can't stop sweating even when I cool down.

Help! I just want to know if I need to go to an endocrinologist for hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) or if this sounds like another bl**dy perimenopause symptom...

Thanks!

Aw, Riv, what an awful thing! sad.gif

I don't have the day sweats, but do at times have plenty of hot flashes. At times, I just walk around the house topless (I live in a rural area). This has been the hottest summer of my life!

I just don't know what to say about this happening while you're trying to teach - will they let you have a fan in the room? If it were winter, you might be able to wear a light undertop that wicks away moisture. Holy Moley, you poor thing!

Ideally, this will just go away. I used to have night sweats, and haven't had any in about a year, so praying this nonsense will just stop for you, too!

Good luck, dear Riv!

Hey riv,

I just did a few searches for the moisture wicking material in the news lately. There are several names for the material & I had read an article on PJ's for meno women. I just found a site that has shirts & stuff, but I probably can't list link here, as it's retail. I'll send you a PM with what I found.

Good luck sweetie!

Hi y'all,

Thanks for the replies. I bought a fan to put in the classroom; the only trouble is that I'm not there every day so I hope that by putting a sign up that says "property of the English Department, do not remove", my fan will last the semester.

I went to see my g.p. yesterday and she is so cool. She calmed me down just by listening and prescribed some heavy duty prescrip anti-perspirant and believe it or not I think it's working. You apply it at night so that it soaks into your sweat glands and makes them less hyperactive (she said). I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'd buy some more shirts but I'm vain enough to want to wear my "pretty" clothes to work--just bought some new ones for this year--, and t-shirts aren't that appropriate anyway, so I hope that this prescribed anti-perspirant works, at least till I finish teaching next May.

Hope it works well for you, Riv!

You might do well to have your sign on the fan say: "Property of Menopausal Woman, Do Not Remove or I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN." smile.gif

Good luck with the new school year!

laugh.gif Thanks everyone!

So far so good; the antiperspirant-on-steroids seems to have done the trick. It's called drysol if anyone ever needs to request it from their doc.

I love the suggestion for the sign...made me laugh

I'm already known as the alpha female in the department, I'm tons older than all the other grad assistants and my tolerance for b.s. has decreased tremendously in the past year or so...I am woman hear me roar (and cry for no apparent reason too--ah, peri)
