I am a bit confused. First of all has anyone ever taken Aygestin? Secondly, did your doctor prescribe Aygestin for perimenopausal symptoms?

Here is my quick background. I was taking bcp for over a year, blood pressure is elevated, glucose is now elevated, the new ob/gyn doesn't want me taking bcp anymore. This is my second time seeing this doctor and he said that Aygestin will eliminate my mood swings, irritability, labor pain cramps and other peri. symptoms.

I have read about women taking Aygestin for heavy menstrual flow, but not for peri.

Aygestin is a synthetic progesterone. If the doctor wants to put you on progesterone I would him/her to put you on a bio identical progesterone. I'm not sure why doctors are still prescribingthe synthetics when they can just as easily order the bioidentical ones.

I took Aygestin back in the late 90s for about a year along with estrace. Because I have still had my uterus I had to take the aygestin the last 12 days of the month. However it did not do to me what your doctor is telling you it will do for you. I cried more, was extremely irritable, etc on it.

Thanks for the information smile.gif .

I haven't tried the Aygestin yet because I want to see if my period will start. Of course I'm hoping that it doesn't start again and that I'm on my way to being postmenopausal ( laugh.gif YEAH!!!).

I tried Prometrium, which is a bioidentical progesterone, but it didn't do much for my perimenopausal symptoms. It did help me to sleep well at nights smile.gif . Also, while I was taking it orally it caused my liver enzyme levels to become elevated. When I switched to vaginally thing returned to normal. I've only met one other women to experience the same side effect.

I've also tried several progesterone brands from the health food store which only made all my symptoms worst (depression, anxiety, extreme dizziness, spacey blink.gif ). I was told by a pharmacist that some women can not tolerate progesterone.

Why does this have to be so difficult ohmy.gif, why can't there be a magic pill that fix all these nasty symptoms laugh.gif.
